ELINT aircrafts

i wish for a way to jam radar without destroying it.

shouldn't be hard to code, get a Lancaster or B-17, and instead of bombs, make it drop foil leaflets aka "chaff".

Benefits: instead of knocking out the radar-capturing the base- having no radar once you destroy map room.

a single or flight of 3 ELINT aircraft flying a few kilometers ahead of the bomber formation drop chaff, then head back to base. the bomberformation is unseen, and succesfully bomb without any loss.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Chaff in WWII was invented by the British and was called Window. The way it works is that the foil strips are cut to an exact length that matches the Radar pulse length. When dropped it doesn't "jam" the receiver in the Radar unit but causes thousands of Radar returns that overload the Radar operator. Instead of seeing one contact the operator sees thousands. In the early days of Radar before doppler effect was used this would cause mass confusion in the Radar stations because the operators couldn't pick out the real contacts from all the clutter.

Many different kinds of aircraft were used to deploy Window. Bombers for the most part due to being able to carry larger amounts of the stuff, but Mossies were used often for this mission as well in addition to their pathfinder roles for the bombers.

While it might be interesting to see this in the game, I doubt it would be used very much with the limited range of the ingame Radar.
