On a related note, what do you think of the idea of SR-71 flights into Russian Airspace? Think they'd survive?

I'll try to get it from an old HDD tonight at home.

SR-71 that will get into an S-200, 300 or 400 fireing range is a toast. They probably flew parallel to the border, "crossing" it over some islands or small capes. Or flew over some tundra in the North where they can count polar deers. A good SAM ambush could solve the problem, but looks like no one cared. Remember a joke about an uncatchable Joe? :)

We got a first S-400 on combat duty near Moscow 2 weeks ago. Isn't it nice? :)

They've gotta flex what they have.

The had numerous nuclear subs rusting out at port, others countries had to step in to deal with the dangerous nuclear issues they had.

Or you could threaten neighbors by invading their airspace and attempt to fire anti-radar missiles inside.

If all they have are long range bombers of the 50's to show off, enjoy the nostalgia.

News said few weeks ago that during tests S400 intercepted targets at 56KM high with speed of 2.8KM/sec. Although it didn't say which version of 400.

Is it about Georgia where Evil Russians (tm) dropped an anti-radar missile? Pure nonsense. Georgia doesn't have any radars. They already don't have railways, power stations, industry, medical care etc - it all disappeared when Evil Occupants went away. But now they have Democracy and government that literally gets it's salary from US DoS, while the rest of the population either starves or illegally works in Russia. Hail Democracy!

All I know is that it's a long-range version of S-300, solid-fuel, active-guidance, ABM-capable just as 300. It's a replacement for S-200, being cheaper in service, mobile and much more flexible. Not having to fuel spare missiles (up to 60 IIRC for S-200) or even assemble them from factory storage containers makes it much more effective.

Optimists make Airplanes, pessimists make Parachutes, cynics make SAMs. ;)

Are this ones usefull as long-range recon?

We also have Tu-160, as Neubob said, that is like a much bigger version of a B1-B, with stealth capabilities, carrying hi-tech weapons only.

I'm sorry, but is this bull**** posturing supposed to scare the common citizen?  No one benefits economically and no one seems to be aiming for desperation ... shake hands and squealing continue global commerce already.
