A little Chile
« on: August 19, 2007, 11:13:37 PM »
Probably been to Chile more than twenty times now and thought I'd share a little. I'm currently in Antostudmuffinasta.

This is way up high around 15K feet.

The pic dows not really show it, but what a white knuckle drive.

Getting ready to board the Metro. Notice the mountains in the background.

Went to a big seafood market, open market type place in downtown Santiago. Very interesting and great food.

Sea Urchen

Scallops

Corvina (Chilean Sea Bass)

This is like a type of barnicle looking thing. I have eaten them before and the meat inside is like a cross between a clam and scallop. The are called Picco Rocco (Rock Beak). They have this beak, claw like thing that moves in and out. Would be an interesting video.

Market area. Sorry for the poor photo.

Conger eel

Conger eel soup - yummy!  That drink is called a Pisco Sour and very good as well.

Restaurant area...

Chile has some very tasty wine and at good prices as well. Here was dinner last night. Went to a folkloric dance dinner show in Santiago. That meat product on top is some type of intestine stuffed with organ meats. The other are various cuts of beef. It was all very good.

And because the Easter Islands belong to Chile they had a polynesian thing going as well.

I work the Americas focused on the mining and cement industries. Chile is huge in terms of copper. This is probably about number 20 or more in terms of visits to Chile.

It is winter now as this is in the southern hemisphere. Gets down close to freezing at night.

Will be in the Atacama for a couple of days to visit Escondida and Chuquicamata copper mines as well as others. The Atacama is one of the driest deserts in the world and looks like the surface of the moon....long days, long drives, and two big bottles of water even though it's gonna be cold this time of year.

Took these pics a couple of years ago.

You must have flown on one of Lalust (my wife) AA flights. She has been bidding the Chile run for 6 years now. If you see a Flight attendant with the name tag: K.L. Lust  be sure to say hello.
