The Typhoon will eventually replace the Tornado F3 (as well as other aircraft) over the next several years.  It's difficult to compare it to the F22 since I think they'll be doing quite different roles.  Sill nice though, and I'm not just saying that because I work with them! ;)

I wonder if he'll bring back the foodlines and empty stores, too?

Its just foolish.  But by all means, let's see their 3rd rate aircraft fly these long, long missions.  And perhaps we can all pretend its the 60s again.

Foodlines and empty stores when 50% of the population is on the edge of starvation?! Stores are full, but meat consumption per capita decreased 2 times  since 1990. And it's quite easy to explain.

Military and civilian aircraft production means more jobs.  The problem is that in the last 16 years we lost highly-qualified workers, technological links that included other Republics got broken, the last news is Motor-Sich from Ukraine abandoning jet-engine production and our Aircraft corporation moving the production to Russia.

3rd rate aircraft - you mean Tu-160? :D If they'll start making them again - that will be a sign that we still got all the technology. And if we really _need_ something - we usually do it.  160 is a brilliant piece of Engineering Art.

Today we got contracts for MiG-29 with Poland, maintenance with Kazakhstan, Tupolev passenger jets with Iran, Cuba and other countries not involved into US policy. I  say - it's a success. Sukhoi RRJ is another success, if we maintain technological lines producing civilian jets - then we'll be able to increase military production when we need (and I hope we'll never need it).

I don't see any reasons why we can't beat Embrayer in civilian AC production. We got modern airframes, we finally got modern engines on the conveyor, we have traditional clients who'll prefer to buy new Russian jets at the price of used Boeings, why not? It's "capitalism". Competition should be good for Boeing, Airbus and Embrayer! :D

As I said before - the Bear just woke up and stopped sucking it's paw as he did in Winter.

Putin's govt finally tries not to look as a "shut-down committee". I hope it's not just an election trick, to promote a leading party of professional thieves, the "United Russia".

I'll vote for this "new Party and Government" only after I'll see that they stop killing Russian science, where I work. But it looks like we are a nuisance for them. "Look, we don't pay them - but they still work! Let's try DDT?" Now I feel like I will vote for Communists. You can't imagine how hard it is for me... :( Same crooks, or even worse, but they are the only organized opposition.

Actually Boroda, Putin has ordered more and better Tu160 bombers with all new avionics, weapons etc :) I read that today. He also has plans of upto 6 aircraft carriers in the near future.

6 carriers is a hallucination of our Navy Commander in Chief.

As Shifty already said - the only reason is to sell them to Zimbabwe at the price of scrap-iron. It's a nonsense.

Buying remaining 160s from Ukraine was probably blocked by the US. I wonder why they didn't get a "free sample" and preferred to scrap them all. Probably Ukrainian mentality (and I share it myself ;)) - we'll NEVER give anything for free! :D

Honestly, I would love to see an  operational Russian CVN.  I'm just  a carrier nut.:D
