Question
« on: August 22, 2007, 01:44:04 PM »
I have been trying to understand what happens when I get really slow at the top of a loop.  I have enough speed to make it over and have the nose pointing straight to the ground.  What happens is that even though I am pointing straight down with wep on, it seems that gravity goes away.  The plane wasnt to flip over tail first and depending on how slow I was, it may just straighten out at 0 speed and float to the ground.

The question is, why does it do that?  Model bug or physics?
Why doesn't it pick up any speed what so ever while floating down.  You'd think the prob would be able to pull it?

Snap roll into the inverted flat spin or floating leaf as you put it. The old D9's were famous for it. Not so well modeled in here or you;d see guys flipping em all over the place :)

If you have alt dump gear and pump throttle a few times while using ailerons and rudders. The nose will fall through the horizon and it will begin to fly again. Don't forget the gear as she gets fast.

Dem Navy jets (A4M Skyhawk) always had a lil fwd cg so would always fall through the horizon and begin flying again if you got em squirrely. Nice feature but aft cg helps the plane do things quicker because its more unstable but you give up someof the safety. I guess the Navy prefered live pilots over dead aces.....Not a bad idea if you ask me.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I can recover if I have alt.  I m more interested on the why it happens.  I would think when the nose is pointing straight down and I dont pull on the stick, the planes should go straight down.  Instead, it acts as if the tail is heavier and tries to go nose up

do you use Combat trim? I know I can get my 38 to get slow enough to get it stuck in the air. As you loop up over the top CT trims the plane and it seems to get stuck. If Im going to slow that much at the top of a loop Ill toggle off CT so I'm a bit more "clean" coming over the top.

What he means is that sometimes you are past the inverted leaf float stall point with nose pointing straight down, but seemingly you stuck that way like gravity isn't there and tail wanna go around and place  the plane inverted again.

Feels like computational delay of sort. With nose pointed down for few seconds you should pick up some speed, yet plane behaves like it is still on the top inverted.

I ll give it a try but I am already nose down for a second or two.  As Bihorn Old Horn said :D   We both have been through it in DA several times.  I'll look for a film to to avoid confusions
