Statements that make you go hmmmmm

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, meanwhile, lashed out at American criticism a day after President Bush expressed frustration with the Iraqi government's inability to bridge political divisions.

"No one has the right to place timetables on the Iraq government. It was elected by its people," the *****e leader said at a news conference in Damascus at the end of a three-day visit to Syria.

"Those who make such statements are bothered by our visit to Syria. We will pay no attention. We care for our people and our constitution and can find friends elsewhere," al-Maliki said.

We can find friends elsewhere eh????  watermelon like this really makes ya wonder why we even bother.

I'll risk getting flamed again for posting this but iraq is a fabricated country.  it was fabricated without much forethought by the british after WWI.

there needs to be an arab iraq which will be divided between the many warring factions of the religion of peace and a kurdistan.

granted, there are many challenges to this set up but it is truly the only realistically viable option unless we intend to garrison the place for the next millenia.

that comment may have been directed at a group of democrat Senators, not Bush.  These democrat senators recently critisized the Iraqi gubmint and tried to instruct them on firm timetables... or insist on other demands, which were not well received.

i read somewhere that Bush lashed out at these Senators in a public briefing, telling them it is not the place of American Senators to instruct the Iraqis.    sry, no linky.

She should be, she hung around him for 30 some odd years, she was bound to learn a few of his tricks...

Yep, Storch, that's the relentless melody beneath the dance of death that has been Iraq throughout its British creation.  The USSR broke into its major factions, and the U.S. almost did in the Civil War.

Now the U.S., with Canada and Mexico and probably Central American nations eventually, is headed toward the United States of North America.  Always fascinating to see how many different cultures can unite under one umbrella government.

huh?:huh

I think not.

That is, unless you are planning on becoming a minor province of Canada. In which case you must BYOB, as we currently don't have enough to support you.

You got it, RTR.  Canada will became the driving force behind the United States of North America (USNA) while it's ripping up those Russian flags planted on the bottom of the Arctic Sea.

USNA will start with around 93 PUs (political units) loosely following the latest number of 12 Canadian provinces and territories, 50 U.S. states, and 31 Mexican states.

Headquarters will be in Austin near the geocenter with major regional centers in Winnipeg, Wichita, and San Luis Potosi.  Once again, Rand McNally shows us the logical locations for regional capitals.

Washington, Ottawa, and Mexico City will be interesting tourist destinations like Williamsburg.

When the rest of the North American region is added, USNA will encompass seven Central American nations plus Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, and West Indies, another 20 or so nations.

Or it might go the other way, e.g., the Nine States of North America or whatever that treatise was on the more "natural" regionalization.

No telling what will happen as interested informed citizens unite in their own best interests.

Easy, we don't set a timeline for withdrawal.  We just set a timeline for when we start billing Iraq directly as military contractors for services provided.

That way, if they chose not to pay and sent us on our way, it's their decision, not us pulling out.  If they choose to pay for our services while getting their law enforcement/military together, then the soliders have a chance to take home more money.

I bet a lot of that gridlock would be resolved quickly...

Sounds good Halo, but what is this USNA you speak of? :huh

I don't see any reason not to just keep it as Canada. I mean you can join up and all, but you can't go trying to change the name of the country.

Why, that's just un-Canadian!

Careful Bub, or we won't let you join:furious
