Is this how it should look?
« on: August 28, 2007, 04:00:52 PM »
Downloaded the new Hires pack. The lettering in the text buff looks all blocky and while I type in the text buffer the font is smaller. Is this how it should be? Got a 19inch LCd widescreen Running 1680 x 1050 Can my moniter jsut not handle it?

Is that the native resolution of the LCD monitor?  Graphics never look right on LCD's, unless you run the monitor at its native resolution.

It's resampling to the size of your output from the size of the LCD.

For example, you can run at 16000x12000 if your vid card allows it, but it's all being shrunk down (by the card or by the monitor hardware) to fit the physical pixels on the LCD itself.

FYI: Text in the buffer doesn't use the hi-res pack. The hi-res pack is textures. The text uses a type of a font.

You can change the size of your text in the settings. The radio bar is "fixed" in size, if I recall. So if you up the resolution, then up the text size so it looks the same, the higher resolution means your radio box is smaller (same pixels, more density of pixels, means smaller object)

It's not about the "next lowest" -- you'll need to look up the specs on your monitor and find the native resolution on that (that is, exactly how many physical pixels does it have?) and set it to that. That will give you the least amount of fuzz/blur, and the best pixel representation.

Rough guess, most lower end LCDs are 1280x1024. That's what mine's at.

EDIT: Oh, you mentioned a 19inch widescreen, they have different resolutions. Can you give us the model? I.E. "Dell 1900FP" ?

I have a 22" widescreen Gateway LCD, 8600 Nvidia, PNY 2DDR, Gateway FX 530S.

What should my settings be for the best res.?

Also, do we still have the option in game to up the res. or is that only done by downloading the hires. pack?
