I've reached the point where I am confident going into any 1v1 fight in the MA regardless of planes and alt, though "confident" does not by any stretch of the imagination mean "victory assured."

I've also reached the point where I feel I no longer embarrass myself against good sticks in the DA, although I've yet to reach the point where I can match them on an equal footing.  Especially if they're E-Fighting (it's a concept difficult for me to grasp).

I do wish I'd had the same attitude that I have today towards fighting and learning back when I was in Air Warrior.  I spent a few years in that sim, essentially being the scoremonkey runner whiner little 15 year old squeaker wannabe, etc., etc., thought he was good until he went into the DA and got his butt handed to him in two turns (and then never went in again).

I feel I wasted a great opportunity back then.  I'm encouraged when I find people struggling not to waste one now.

If I get airborn I'm happy, and that's with auto takeoff enabled.

I have always been interested in WWI and WWII aviation. Aviation in general interests me very much.

I was scared to death the very first time I flew online. It was WB version 1.12 or something like that. I made a kill on my first day but I also had someone showing me the ropes as we went along. I was hooked immediately.

I'm not very good. Have been better when I flew more. I have fun flying in the MA and prefer the early and mid war arenas. Things have changed a lot since I started. I speak of player attitudes and what is spoken/written on the channels. I miss some of the chivalry and fairness of the early days and even though it wasn't perfect,  the whole feel of the game was a lot different than it is now.

I keep plugging away at it as I get time and enjoy myself for the most part but I am getting really rusty.

I wouldn't say I'm great, but I wouldn't say I'm horrible.  I have brief moments of luck/brilliance.  Sometimes those moments last weeks, other times they last about 10 seconds.

When I first got my hands on a ww2 flight sim (AW in my case).  I had certain expectations of my ability.  I assumed; perhaps because of my love of airplanes and WWII fighters specifically, that I would be a phenomenal pilot.

I soon found out alot of reading, learning and practice was required!!

so ... where are some of you in your expectations?  Do you think you have plateaued? Are you still on your way up, or about where you imagined you would be?

I suppose if you did not start with in interest in WW2 fighters you would not have come into the sim world with as much of an expectation.. but I may be wrong.

I am no where near what I thought I would be all those years ago, but on occasion, if I have been playing regularly I feel like I have flashes of brilliance..usually followed by flashes of my own aviation fuel and a quick trip  to the tower.

It may be interesting to see what you expected vs your interest in ww2 aviation.

or has flying in the ww2 sim world created an interest in ww2 aviation outside of the game for you?

me?? i sukc.....big time.....i'm more of a very lucky fighter pilot than a good one........and this is much harder than the old AW3 was...and much more fun too...........been active for just over a year, but not always able to put forth the time i should to iimprove myself.

<<<< Only halfway decent when I actually apply all the things I've learned from the great sticks in my squad instead of trimming trees in a furball with the stall buzzer screaming at me. ;)
But I'm still having a great time and meeting great people, so the learning continues.
