I would love to see these H2H threads stop coming up. We all know H2H will be coming back. HT is just setting it up so it is being tracked better for hackers. H2H IS COMIN BACK! YAY

How about this?  The FE generates a signature using a part of the user hard drive.  An example would be the serial number (don't get exited, it is very easy to change it.  It just an example).  Maybe use the boot sector or a part of the windows programs, mark a cluster bad in the disk and save infor there, etc.

So, When you sign up, HT creates that signature that cannot be changed since you wont know what part of the disk they used to generate it.  Only way to change it would be to format your C drive (in theory at list).  Sig stays the same, HT can track you.

Can I get a free month for this? :rofl

Only, you're talking about folks that have already hacked into the exe, and probably could find the code that generates the ID and edit it (thus avoiding the ban list)

There are all sorts of ways around being banned. Unfortunately. Some of those rejects don't deserve the second, third, fourth chances that they abuse.

Few bad apples ruined the bunch huh ? I must say I did enjoy dipping into H2H for a quick fight every now and then . I will be interested to see what events unfold here in the future.I did experience a lot of cursing and unsportsman like behaivor but hey what can be expected from a bunch who plays for free and who the majority of which have not hit puberty yet ?

I'm no programmer, but you could use the mac addy of the hard drive, nic card etc.........wont stop those determined to cause trouble, but would be a pain in the backside having to swap components out for the ability to.

Hopefully H2H will come back up, I dont fly there, but some of the ppl who fly there and in the MA are good fella's. (Cant speak for the rest of them, dont know them..lol)

Want support? Pay for it like the rest of us have to. Want to play in an 8 person server with no semblance of reality in a totally BS arcade game? Buy IL2-1946.

Either way don't whine about lack of support in a freeloader game.

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Oh my god....I think hell has frozen over. I actually agree with something you said!

It's a good theory, though I'm not sure how virus scanners would react to an attempt to write to the boot sector. I'm pretty sure Norton would jump all over it.

But we all know any security measure can be cracked. It's just a matter of time.

And I'm not trying to be negative with the H2H players. I've never concerned myself with H2H and really never paid attention to it until recently. It was kind of hard not to pay attention when H2H topics popped up in the General forum. I sincerely hope there is a way for H2H to re-open since I know what it's like to lose your ability to play AH or whatever your favorite addiction is.

:rofl

No need to write there.  Anywhere on the disk will do and then mark it as bad so it does not get over written.  What is funny is that this is 1980s copy protection technology for games on the old 5.25" floppies :rofl  I was hoping someone would catch it.

gpwurzel:
Everything can and will be hacked eventually.  The idea is to make it so hard that if someone does hack it they deserve to play for free :rofl (Thats a joke, don't shoot me lol)  Changing a mac address takes less time than posting this reply.

There are easier ways to do it.  You could use the same mechanism the banks use when you do online banking.  HT could with a little effort keep track of the free loaders but maybe he figures that it is not worth his time and trouble.  Free is a good marketing tool but maybe his stats say that it did not bring in enough customers to justify his trouble.  If you did not sign up after the free trial I don't think you are ever going to.  You will keep playing for free.  Does that sound fair to you?  Does any of you work for free?

Actually I did catch it. I just don't ever recall it being applied to a hard drive.

That protection method was quickly broken with low level copiers. And I think that's about all I'll say about that since we're getting uncomfortably close to forbidden discussions.

Working for free? Right off hand I can think of about 360 hours worth of work I've done for free in the recent past.

One thing I've noticed is some of the H2H guys showing up in the MA with subscriptions.

So i guess the "we cant afford it line" can be circumnavigated when you need to play AH online  :aok

A big welcome to the increasing player base ~S~
