There are two trains of thought on this. Planes hate the spotters calling out what GV is approaching and GVs hate all of the air banter and check 6's. So, keep this in mind when you're in the air over a GV battle...
The three absolute worst things for true GV players are...
1) Engines running while sitting still. This eliminates any long range tracking of inbound GVs so spotters calling out location and type are needed. And, usually when you do hear them it's to late and you or someone near you is dead.
2) Mindless banter on range. Whether from the air or ground. While in battle, nobody needs to hear about X killing Y or that great movie you saw the other day. Again, this requires spotters calling out location and type.
3) Planes flying at low altitude. The plane engines drown out GV engines which then requires spotters calling out GV locations and types. Unless air cover is called for, planes should keep away from GV battles. Then either vacate the area or move 4 to 5k away from the battle unless there is reason for them to stay.
Air cover is suppose to be just that air cover. The people flying it are suppose to intercept incoming planes before they can affect the ground battle, not go after the enemy GVs unless a ground strike is requested.
Like I said, there are 2 sides to every range complaint. Look at them both.
