I have a simular problem where I have a long delay after clicking hanger or arena mesages.  Also once I get into the Hanger the refresh after clicking a new plane or vehicle or changing the load out on a plane can take up to 2 minutes.

Does any one have an idea what I sould be looking for.

sounds like your system might be overr loaded.  Run DXdiag and post the first third or so of it here, also hit "cntrl, alt, delete" and check to see how many processes you have running, and post that info too.

ya it looks like your video card is on the low end, and with only 512 megs of ram your system is really working hard.

When you first start the game, click the video tab, in there make sure you are not preloading any thing, and put the textures to 256. Once the game re loads you might have to turn the sliders towards the performance side in the video settings there.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the great help i realy appreciate your advice.

I have moved the texture in video setting to 256 and moved the slider in game to the righ (to performance).  No difference.

I should say that once I am in the game flying there is no problems.  I also have been playing with the 52 Kiwi for about a year with no problems. but as from release 2.10 I have have been having this problem.

In addition it only seams to be a problem in the online arenas and interestingly the training arena is ok as well.  :(

I have tried reducing concurrent services to a minimum  by optermising what is started at boot and moved some services back from auto to manual and turned otheres off. I now have only 33 services running.

I am virus and spywere free

Still no difference.

When I click on the hanger button the system hangs with the button depressed then does intermitent disk activity. I suspect that default skins are being loaded and latency over the network to New Zealand is not the best >300ms. after a minute or two the hanger screen will display. changing vehicals or loadout resulting in the same delay. All other menu options respond with sub second times

Can anyone confirm this or at least know if I could pre load all default skins

Any suggestions would be apreaciated

Regards AB

This sounds like a classic resource issue.  You should not be able to see the HD LED flash when a plane texture loads due to it being so quick.

When you are at the desktop, with nohing running,  bring up the Windows task manager and select the "Processes" tab.  At the bottom center of the panel, is the CPU usage percentage,

Watch it for a couple of minutes.  It should be bouncing between 0 and 1 (on occsaion possibly 2) percent like a heartbeat.  Like a rock solid beat.

Also, check the amount of free RAM available while you are there.

I get mine down to 20, some here who have their boxes setup for nothing but the game have it down to 11.

The 0-2% should pulse like a heartbeat, very steady. The problem with the extra things running in the background is some of them ping sites on the internet, others "check" things on your system once ever 5 mins or so. Each of these little interruptions on a fast machine isn't a big deal, but on a machine on the edge can cause issues with warping, mini screen freezes and so on.

Every EXE file runs all the time it is loaded.  The Windows message loop runs, for each application, 60 times a second.  And each loaded EXE takes up memory and other resources.

The Windows Task Manager has such a large sample rate it cannot and will not show processes running the Windows message loop.  The Task Manager does not show a lot of things, quite frankly.

49 processes on a machine with 512MB of RAM is going to really limit the resources available to the game.
