The departure area was a frame rate nightmare.. we taxied to the side and let the buffs get off; and rolled immediatly after. Buy the time we got airborne the buff main group was distant dots.

I was expecting a long mission; and we tanked for it; this slowed and hampered our climb somewhat and by the time we were co-alt with the buffs they were still in front were being engaged by skirmishers.

Next time we leave first.  And from a diffrent field.

We were intercepted by two seperate main LW elements; one on our flank and one at our front nither of them were less than 3 k above the escorts and the buffs. And they came screamin in.. forcing the escorts to fight up hill.. at 25K.

Next time we will be higher.

The escort did what it could; I believe all of us got multiple kills. We were vastly overwhelmed and SA beyon my own fights was almost nil. Every time I began pounding on a FW a 109 would be upon me, I'd break off, swing back to the buffs; set up on another making a pass and be attacked again. After my second; I looked around again.. and as far as I could see the sky was filled with chutes and high LW cons. All the buffs and escorts had perished or vanished. With my engine streaming oil I retired towards f16.

The buffs themselves gave good account; tho they too were overwhelmed by the large number of silmutaneously attacking LW fighters. Many buffs went down firing at one target while being hit from the other side or off angle by another. From my confused perspective; one moment there was a buff group; the next there were red and green chutes. Everywhere.

We had 5 escorts against at least 20 LW; and they trounced us.

Next time there will be more of us. Higher. Sooner. In position, and ready to engage in friendly territory.

Thanks to all who flew..

Sounds like a screw-up.   I was going to be there and fly escort, but my ISP didn't want to co-operate.

Hehe, I was way in front of the main body and the 51s were a long way off my tail.  I started a long shallow dive towards the buffs with wep on.  Took out ones vert stab and made another blow up.  You're right, the escort should have been nearer the bombers.      I was Luftwaffe 109, first one in. What a rush breaking through a box of 10-11 bombers, blasting one, and making it out without a scratch, my heart was in my throat!! A 51 came up on my tail shortly after and nailed me.
Upped again and this time the fighters were ready for us.  All of my buddies were taking them though so I had a clear flight to the bombers (again) and took down 2 more and proceeded to fight with 33 cannon and 121 MG left.  I got a 51.

The screw up came because of a delay on our start caused by a need to allow an arena reset. By the time we launched the LW had a head start, and that's all they needed.

I think that more coordination should be made in advance to ensure that the larger force is Bombers/Escorts.

The Rooks were in the South, and Vastly Outnumbered the Knights.

I was with the Wrecking Crew, and we timed our take off to meet the bombers over the canyons.

We took off and climbed, by the time we got alt, there was nothing left to go after.  I had to work the next morning, so had to auger and call it a night.

If we coordinated so that the larger force was the Buff/Escort force, and the Smaller Force was defending, there would not have been three or four additional squadrons waiting for those bomber formations, that had be destroyed before reaching enemy territory.

Had we reversed roles, Rooks as Allied, I believe more fun would have been had by All.

This could be my fault.   I was going to lead a flight of 3 or 4 190's from f2, which turned into a flight of 10+ 190's and 109's.   I launched WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too soon, I wanted to climb to 30k. This takes a LOOOOOOONG time in a fully loaded 190.

Well we got to alt, and were running low on fuel. So I took the flight into Knight territory.  I felt bad about doing it, but didnt want to waiste everybody in my flight's time.  After searching through knight land we found the bombers as they were crossing f16.  We attacked them from dead 6 over the canyons.

We need an HA

With regards to organization, yes, we should improve that.

I will contact my ISP about setting up a BBS (I used to run one on my old ISP). I will set up secure forums and have people register, but it will allow all that are registered to get the act together ahead of time. I used to have it set so that Allieds had a forum, Axis had a forum. Worked out pretty well!

Anyone else running UBB? Might be an idea for you...

Oh well, been meaning to start an AH page anyway...

Another thing, earlier in the day, Me and Towd got in a fight with a 205 over at F23.

He had vultched Towd Several Times, and when I went to 23 he vultched me also.

Well, me and Towd both got up after a couple of tries.

I see in the text buffer "How about that he flew right through my stream?"

I was on the Macchi's Six, and hit him (P-51 6X50's) for a two and perhaps 3 second burst,

He then shot down Towd again, and I hit him with another 3 second burst.

He went into a loop and got behind me? Was really quick???? After hitting him at close range with about 7 Seconds of .50Cal, he could still manuver.

Well, he shot me down again.

Well I launched again, and caught him low and slow, and again, about a 2 second burst, his prop wasn't spinning (He said he was out of fuel) and I over shot.  Towd was close, but when I came around again, he was gone.

He had ditched.

Towd said he hit him about three times, and I know I hit him good 4 times for a total of 9 seconds.

Is the Macchi that tough?

I saw sprites every time I hit him.

Thanks for the post on why ROE was broken.
I think that the introduction of engine managent rules on the day of the mission might have changed the fuel consuption for the 190 quite a bit. maybe the 109 as well. I was supprised it took us a full drop tank to get to 28k with out wep.
that might have thrown your calculations off.
Well get it right next time.'

Hangtime something you might try is to have bombers leave from a rear position field sence they are slow and fighters leave from a forward field at a later time. This gives bombers a chance to climb and fighters can catch them and be in front of them. if and when you have enough fighters you can use the historical 6 teir cover which is evry 1000 ft there is a group of fighters staggered to cover bombers. Saw that on history channel.
