And too bad V2 can't hit...
You are right - the V2 used a gyro compass with a theoretical 1% deviation. This meant that over the 320Km range of the rocket, the "hit circle" would have been anywhere within 3.2Km of target. Even this level of accuracy was never achieved with the V2, and about 1/3 of the missiles never reached target at all (they disintegrated in flight). The first V2 launched against London was aimed at the London fire squad, but instead landed in Chiswick - some 10Km away.
The only tactical employment of the rocket was against the Remagen bridge - 11 V2s were launched against the bridge - none hit.
The V2 is not a tactical weapon, and calling it a strategic weapon is a stretch as well given its inaccuracy. The V2 was a terror weapon plain and simple, designed to cause civilian casualties. It would be completely worthless in AH.
V2 LAUNCH IN AH -
1. You watch a lift-off of a cartoon V2 for 20 seconds, then it is out of visual range...
2. A few minutes later, it lands somewhere in a 10Km circle around where you aimed it...
3. You never see or hear the impact, as you are nowhere near there...
4. You check that strats a few minutes later to see if anything has been hit, it hasn't...
5. You whine loudly on Ch.200 that the V2 is porked/undermodeled and that HTC sucks.
6. You rinse and repeat.
Oh yea, that sounds like fun.
