The Russians are coming.......
« Reply #15 on: September 08, 2007, 10:07:13 AM »
This has become standard these days. usually we scramble our F16s and keep them company until the brits take over down south. Hopefully its gonna do wonders for the airforce budget :aok

That beeing said im glad russia is finally starting to train and invest in their military. It is a much better scenario to have them well trained, equipped and in good spirits so they can both offer a counterweight to NATO expansion, and not be a danger to themselves. NOBODY wants to see a military such as theirs full of disgruntled troops and officers that needs to make a living doing shady stuff.

Their bite is still massive so dont get fooled by saying their military is in ruins.

For those who don't feel threatened by forces with a history of aggression I can see how this expansion might seem unnecessarily provocative. I think those who have felt the oppression of that aggression feel differently about a pact that provides for their common defense.

That is one way of looking at it.

I have been an avid supporter of NATO, but in the last few years i have completly changed my mind just as the world has changed.

Yep bad ol' NATO! They are actually stomping around in the Baltic areas and forcing, I say FORCING countries to join up since they have been able to get the peace loving and benevolent Russian forces out of their borders where thay have been throwing daily parties for the people who actually were born there. Bad BAD NATO!!
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

The only reason why i am supporting NATO is that Croatia is very soon to enter it.And because of that we are buying new planes.Hopefully gripens over old f-16s.
Actually, to enter NATO Croatia couldn't choose to buy Russian planes...

Good question. I figured from your first mention of the NATO expansion that you assumed the US was expanding it's power base simply because it is power hungry and seeking world domination. Perhaps everyone who values democracy and freedom benefit when those are expanded?

Bush has done little in that area compared to Reagan bring down the Soviet Union. Many of us are old enough to remember those days quite well and the possibility of a "bloody nose" was far more real then than today.

My answer remains, everyone who values democracy and freedom benefits. When others learn to enjoy freedom then everyone's freedom becomes more secure.

All these new members already have freedom and democracy. Nato does not protect those values any better.

Who benefits from these nations joining NATO?
