Few More Questions
« on: September 09, 2007, 03:30:58 PM »
First one is about Combat Trim.  I usually use it to help steady my aim, as most of the time, even a little rudder movement throws off the shot (I need to play around with some of the settings).  My question is, regarding using CT and not using CT during a fight, does using it make me slower(more drag) increase my turn radius, decrease my turn rate, etc?  Does it hurt me, or is it something that can help my aim, but not hurt my performance (P51 fyi).

Second, is there a way to high lite my whole squad and not just my wingman, with the .wingman, or do I just do that for  everyone?  Is there a way to get their names all yellow like a mission but without the mission?

Thanks

Turning Squad Highlight on is Ctrl Tab or something...might be Shift Tab.

I have no clue how to use combat trim, I never even touched it before. As for Highlighting a squad press ctrl S. In the text it will say "Squad Highlight is on". You can change the color in which you see your squad by going to options>prefrences>GUI and (in the box at the top) scroll down to squadmate and set your color.

Donkey,
alot of different people have differing opinions in regards to CT ( Combat Trim )........me personally I leave CT turned off for 99% of the time....

#2- using  a vox channel 101 to 199 for your entire squad & other flying friends will show them all up as highlited ( yellow - or what ever color you have set )

u also can use the Sqd Vox channel ( think thisis channel 4 RED channel with out looking it up .. )

you can toggle Squadhighlite on and off using I think it is Shift S ( or Ctrl S )......

if I am wrong, I am sure to be corrected.......

back to CT use. I find it is better to have your plane trimmed to where u have to use a gentle/slight pull back on the stick when fixing to pull the trigger......when I say slight / gentle you are firing in a situation to where you are almost if not unloaded on the G's.......using CT , I find it makes one have to over correct constantly to hold the piper where u want it......which in return throws you off...using Rudder assist with CT on magnifys the situation to be alot worse.......

again, my opinion from my own personal experience

YMMV

hope this helps

Cool, thanks for all of the answers.  And for the squad thing, I'm just talking about like being in a big furball, and having my squad mates names a different color of with a box, so yeah, ok thanks a lot guys.

CT will constanly adjust trim for the SPEED at which you are CURRENTLY flying and thus will gladly make adjustments without asking you. For instance...if you go into a dive with CT on...it may continually adjust for a bit of nose up trim that you may not wish to have happen when you are diving from altitude to drop bombs upon a target.

CT generally adjusts to about 80% of trim required for the SPEED at which you are CURRENTLY flying, or diving, or climbing.

Try this; go to the Training Arena, climb to 15K in any plane of your choice,
and go into a steep dive over a field, picking out a single target. Manually trim your aircraft for the target you have selected...and a second or two, or three later, hit Combat Trim and see what happens. Try pulling out of the dive and then, hit Combat Trim again (which will turn it OFF). What happens?

Combat Trim can be a friend, or a foe.

First learn to trim manually....
Then learn what Combat Trim does...
Then combine the two...

Just my 2 cents.
