Football pool Week #2
« on: September 11, 2007, 01:20:37 PM »
Whew, I made it to week two of a football pool. Rules are you only pick one team each week to win, no point spreads. If the team wins you advance to the next week, if the team loses, you are out for the year. Also, you can pick a team to win only once during the season. Last week I picked the Seahawks, so I can't pick them again. The buy-in was $100 with 1150 entries (pool size of $115,000 and last year one person won the pool of $66,000). In week 1, 190 people got bumped out, mostly due to the Jacksonville weak showing.

Now it is week 2, and I need to pick another winning game. Part of the strategy is to advance, but also save a few strong teams for later in the pool. What team would you pick this week & why?

I am currently leaning towards Pittsburg over Buffalo. A little nervous because of injury report which showed Roethlisberger with ankle & questionable for Sunday. Is there any chance he doesn't play? If he is out, I think best to stay away from this game. Anyone from Pittsburg hearing any stories to the such? Input is appreciated.

Buffalo played ok in week 1.

They would have won if Broncos didn't kick that miracle field goal with .5 seconds.

I dont know if I would trust Pittsburg even if Roethlisberger is cleared to play.  How many times have you seen someone come back after an injury one week only to get reinjured the next week.

I'd look at Atlanta or Chicago or maybe Denver

I'd go with the Bengals over the Browns...

I've never understood why some people are against the philosophy of using "good" teams early.....The point is to stay in!  And it's not all that unheard of for suicide pools to only last 7 or 8 weeks into the regular season before there is a winner.

Don't be afraid to use good teams early.  You just might regret it if you lose in week 2 or 3 with an "ok" team.

It's usually a safe bet to bet against Andy Reid.
