1984 toyota pickup deluxe 4x4 extended cab 5 speed
Got the heater core replaced.
Note: the heater core housing does NOT split vertically! It splits horizontally!
Note: the heater core housing MUST be removed to replace the heater core BUT!... the heater core top is bare (sticks up out of the housing) and can be seen from the top of the housing and slides upward out of the housing WITHOUT taking the heater core housing apart!
Note: heater core has 2 connections with flanges coming out of it with and unusual (at least for me) connection arrangement. Each pipe also has a flange with and O-ring and the pipe slides into the heater core and the pipe and core flanges meet.
NOTE: if ANY of the flanges are not FLAT straighten them NOW!
Each pipe is clamped to the housing in 2 places.
One is at the heater core to pipe connection which uses a semi-circular clips, that are slightly longer then a 1/2 circle, that have a U shaped body that clamp OVER/AROUND the flanges where the core and the pipe connection is, holding them together with an O-ring that is in between the flanges. This clamp appears to also HELP hold that connection together while anchoring the unit in place.
The other clamp holds the pipes in place just before the firewall holes the pipes must go through.
Many cuts and abrasions on hands and forearms remind me why I STOPPED being a mechanic!:furious
Oh well, we shall see if it's fixed or not this winter..................... (froze when I HAD to drive it last winter!)
