Doesnt hurt to bring this one back up. Probably the best addition possible in the sense that it is the true counterpart to the heavy tank (Tiger) as well as the traditional tank. While the germans and russians opted for Hvy tanks for defense the allies relied on mobility & visibility until late in the war.

The M10 would probably be a more realistic (but less effective) choice but the M-18 saw widespread service in late 44.

Hmmm.

I dont see how this lil vehicle survives in AH. Some GVers are able to hit at 2500+ first or second round, since there is absolutely no ballistic dispersion modelled for tank rounds at the moment.
Yeah its fast. Still, I have witnessed first hand (both watching as the guy next to me blow up and myself) how ridiculously long the tank battle ranges are currently....

As long as we dont get fixed magnification tank sights (maybe 2 step zoom as in some models), as they were in RL and ballistic dispersion I dont see how this vehicle could contribute since it is extremely vulnerable against everything except maybe a mild rain (exeggeration).

Well just my opinion!

Best regards,
Matt

Thats funny because whiteman told me to post the tank, even after a search for it that didn't bring anything up.

Actually the M-18 would be very lethal. It's much faster then a tank so it can outflank a position very quickly. The M1A1 is almost as lethal as the 17lber in the firefly. If modeled correctly it will have a faster rate of fire and faster turret traverse. The M-10/M-18 could normally get 2 and often 3 rounds off before a german tank was able to traverse its turret for a single shot. In one famous battle of the bulge encounter an M-10 at a crossroads was able to kill two Panthers and track a tiger before any of them even got a shot off and retreat back toward St Vith without a scratch (then at least)...

Most I've read that is documented is 272 hits at kursk. The Tiger was pretty much impervious to most tank fire until the T34/85 was fielded in the east and the M1A1 and 17lber in the west. Very few tigers were lost to enemy tanks...

How about an M8 knocking out a Tiger II?

From Official Army After Action Reports describing the battle at St. Vith, Belgium, during the Battle of The Bulge:

"While the northern and eastern flanks had been heavily engaged, the northeastern sector (Troop A, 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron; Company A, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion; Troop E, 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron) had been rather quiet. The only excitement there had been when an M8 armored car from Troop B destroyed a (King) Tiger tank.

The armored car had been in a concealed position near the boundary of Troop 3, 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron and Company A, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, when the Tiger approached the lines at right angles to move along a trail in front of the main line of resistance. As the tank passed the armored car, the latter slipped out of position and started up the trail behind the Tiger, accelerating in an attempt to close. At the same moment the German tank commander saw the M8, and started traversing his gun to bear on it. It was a race between the Americans, who were attempting to close so that their 37-mm gun would be effective on the Tiger's thin rear armor, and the Germans, who were desperately striving to bring their 88 to bear. Rapidly the M8 closed to 25 yards, and quickly pumped in three rounds; the lumbering Tiger stopped and shuddered; there was a muffled explosion, followed by flames which billowed out of the turret and engine ports, after which the armored car returned to its position."

Faster turret rate, yes. Faster reload time, only if lap-loading was modelled, but this would be available to nearly all tanks in game then. I.e., having one shell in the breech, one in the hands of the loader and one on his lap (hence the name). Of course this only works if you anticipate something coming yor way.

Well agreed on the mobility! Only depends on how it gets used. Some GVers are very intelligent in moving their tanks, so a fast M18 would make them very deadly to other GVs.

Matt

faster turret spinning?!. a T-34 turret spin is way too fast for me. i can barely aim. the panzer and sherman turret spin (for me) is perfect. fast, but not too fast, so you can aim. the tiger, even though with a slower turn rate, its still my fav tank. for i am a german iron pilot as a lot of people who know me knows. (denholm, tiger, a few 17th squad member, and hehe... unfortunate 1 week players.)

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
