Wait a minute.  Are you running Vista?  Do not install the patch!  The patch is for XP only!

You will have to run the game in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode if you are using Vista and a dual-core AMD CPU.  Dual core Intel CPU's work fine.

And with Vista, you cannot say the only thing you have running is......  Microsoft does indeed do updates to Vista without your knowledge.  Things will change and you cannot stop it, short of disconnecting from the Internet.

No Im on XP Pro. I installed the amd opti thing and now the amd cpu setup again. I just tested it in the training server and it seemed to be working so I will cross my fingers. I put everything back like it was because my physx card was awfully crowded. Im using the antec p180 case so the power cables all enter from the bottom of the box.

For some reason the patch isnt taking. Once I install it AH starts normally but if I change servers or have to restart the game it isnt working anymore. I tried shutting down AVG but that didnt help. For now I have AH in Win 98 mode.

Have you installed the multi-CPU hotfix from Microsoft as well?

I tried installing the 8x.xx drivers last night but they dont support my card. The 9x.xx drivers supplied by the card manufacturer dont seem to be any better than the latest updates from nvidia. Im at a loss what to try now.

Chalenge,
I have a very similar system with same problem.
as8n32SLI  2GB ram, AMD 64 FX-60 2.6 Ghz.
2 BFG 7950GT but not in SLI.  I use up to 4 monitors.  So far just 1 mon in AH2. Win XP SP2.  Been using Nvidia driver 93.71 for a while seems good.  I always hated switching drivers as various games stop working then.  I have AVG virus center which I close down each time before I start AH2, not sure if I have to but I do.  Also try going to your OTHER firewall than Windows,
Start, all programs, go up to NVidia Corporation, activearmour firewall and turn that puppy off and just use windows firewall. O, I added AH2 exe as an exception in the XP firewall also.  I also got rid of Nvidia tray icon, it was giving some odd transparancy error.   Of course the 4.42 mb AMD core optimizer patch and that windows KB896256.  I sure hope I did those correctly because I still get the clip board pages at an angle after it says stop moving the controls so fast.much. Hit H to get ur mouse back, but at this point its restart time.  Stable otherwise ie in training.

Turned off Windows firewall as well and game works pretty good now.  Is this normal to turn off firewall?

I dont think you should have to turn off the firewall but I always do.

I just started over by installing Windows XP Pro fresh. Before I installed any of the system drivers I installed SP2 as well just like the manual for the motherboard instructs. I did not install the nforce IDE drivers. I installed AVG the system drivers and then the hotfix and AMD CPU drivers. I made the changes to the registry and checked to make sure the boot.ini file was modified correctly.

The AMD CPU driver required that I remove the AMD Athlon 64 X2 (drivers I assume) from the add/remove programs list. After I installed the AMD CPU drivers linked from the tech forum here I dont see it listed in the add/remove programs section.

Lastly I installed the sound blaster and forceware drivers. The 93.71 drivers are the earliest I can find that recognize my cards.

I still get the spinning clipboard but only after I have been in the game and then exited. While I dont feel the Win 98 compatibility mode is the best solution I am using that and AH works well enough.

wow u been busy.  I played all night without a lockup as long as I didn't fly the P-47D 40.  Prob just coincidence but I'm staying away from that aircraft for a while.  My screen will go kindof dark and if I go to aircraft its spinning, or the various pages of the clipboard are at an angle with the main clip page still straight.  On my second monitor I setup Windows task manager so when it does freeze I can see the manager data, computer itself doesnt freeze just the app.  My second core jumps to 50% usage steady, with very little use on first core.  Normally both cores run around 10% when its working (flying), much less than I thought it would.  Also, after I've played and restarted afew times it seems to settle down, and maybe hitting escape and clicking things like roster and on the map to QUICKLY but this may be just my weird situational awareness sense.

You did not mention the Microsoft Hotfix.  You have an older copy of XP I presume, or it would already have SP2 installed.  That might be the actual problem.

Skuzzy I dont understand what your trying to say. Do I need to buy a newer version of XP? Do I need to install the "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" or the "AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver Version 1.3.2.0053 for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (x86 and x64)" or both? Do I need to remove the hotfix?

Older versions of XP have a lot of problems.  You cannot install any of the AMD fixes until XP is up to SP2 and later.  And even then, I am not sure it will work.

I have no idea what the AMD CPU drivers are.

1)  You install the MS hotfix.  Check to see if the clip board is spinning.  If not, then stop.  If it is, then continue,
2)  Install the AMD dual-core optimizer.  The clipboard should be fine after that.

This all presumes the motherboard drivers are installed.

Now, if the copy of XP is really old, none of the above may work.  Does you copy of XP have the 48bit IDE drivers?  We have had older copies of XP we had to throw away (keep the license) as they could not longer be installed properly on large hard drives or dual-core CPU's.

Skuzzy I dont know if the version I have includes 48 bit drivers so I will order an updated copy today. I did apply the dual-core optimizer and flew without incident last night but I only had a limited time to play. I think the large hard drive problem may have been what has been bugging my system for some time and why I have to reinstall regularly. Thanks for your help!
