Windows Explorer or Mozilla Firefox??
« Reply #15 on: September 23, 2007, 07:42:37 PM »
I’ve tried Firefox, but still prefer IE.  I see too many things in Firefox that don’t work properly; especially on my school Intranet.  I also have a lot of files directly on my home PCs’ HDs that also don’t open properly in Firefox.  I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m the only one who’ll admit to using IE though.  IE isn’t as secure as Firefox, but I think it does alright and I want things to work.  I think most Firefox users are unaware of what they don’t see because it’s typically minor.
Here are the browser stats from my site so far this month after 717 visitors:
MS Internet Explorer   69.7 %
Firefox   21.6 %
Safari   4.4 %
Mozilla   1.4 %
Opera   1.2 %
Unknown   1.1 %
Netscape   0.1 %

Would you care to explain that to me? I don't have a clue about what that signifies.

It means that he is not yet aware that IE-7 also has tabs.  (Have you dowbloaded IE-7 yet Mark?)

I'm aware that IE 7 has tabs.  I'm also aware of it's multitude of flaws and vulnerabilities, lack of backwards compatibility, issues with external plug ins, horrifying rendering engine, and general crappiness. :)

Then again, a  browser in 2007 that is only 5.7 MB to download, has a better rendering engine, an open SDK for third party add-ons (of which I use quite a few),  and built in tabbed browsing, now that's sexy.

I wouldn't.  it breaks things. AND it's totally uninstallable by a normal user.

" that is only 5.7 MB to download"

IE comes on computers...whats your point?

" has a better rendering engine,"

does it? i've never noticed a difference.

"an open SDK for third party add-ons (of which I use quite a few), "

and i dont use any. nice feature, not necessarily an improvement.

"and built in tabbed browsing"

which caused great annoyance to me until i figured out how to disable new tabs from openeing on a scroll wheel click.

it does have a built in spell check though, which is great. it makes the bugs and random crashing almost bearable.

Firefox.

It isn't that Firefox displays a website incorrectly, it displays what has been coded just fine. The website was written in non-standard code to support IE, which doesn't use the standards agreed upon in standards committees that MS is a member of. It's marketing. They're just trying to force their way as a de facto standard, even if their way isn't very good.

The best reason for anyone to use Firefox is that it does not support Microsoft's proprietary virus delivery application, ActiveX.

(Explaining my original post)

IE just wont keep me logged in here. It crashes a lot more then Fox. No tabbed browsing for IE6. Cant upgrade IE on this computer without being a "Skuzzy-Class" Computer Expert. :furious

Olny problem with FireFox. it doesn't render the smilies on here correctly..

So IMHO: IE sucks..
