Vid Card Question
« on: September 24, 2007, 01:23:17 AM »
Howdy,

I recently spilled a beverage on my old box, and wiped it out

so i have a new one, that i got very cheap, and it may be just a temporary
computer

Its a Levovo Desktop with Vista Home Premium
AMD Athlaon 64x2 dual core 3800+ 2.0 Ghz, 1 gig memory
It came with intergated Nivdia Geforce 6100

I can load and join AH in the arenas, but my net variance goes crazy, and im warping all over

I need to get a better vid card ASAP, but i dont want to spend too much $$$ (up to 200)
any suggestions? I want to go to best buy down the street as soon as it opens monday,

One other question regarding installation, Ive only done it once about 6 years ago...

this is how i think im supposed to do it...

Device manager>>Display adapter>>Uninstall Nvidia Geforce 6100

turn box off, unplug it,open case, put vid card in the pci-e slot, power back up,,,put sotware disc in, and after thats all set up,update drivers and mess with new display settings

any advice appreciated, Salute

AGP I assume, or PCI-E?

AGP - Try this....

129 after rebate.

Used to have one before I upgraded.

mate, i'm runnin a Nvidia  Geforce 5500, and the game run's actually quite smoothly untill i start fighting near the tree's... then i start freezing up a bit but as far as your box goes... that's a solid machine... i'm not too computer savy but i would purchase another video card.

Pretty sure 3D pong is about as extensive as the video acceleration that the 6100 gives you.  Its very basic and meant for web browsing and general multitasking.  No gaming.

don't forget the power supply, most prebuilt systems have a lowend power supply

a new vidcard is going to require a minimum of prob 400watts.......some high quality PSU's might get you by with less ( 300/350? )
