Warping problem
« on: September 24, 2007, 01:47:23 PM »
Guys, one of my pilots is having major warping issues; just flying straight and level he is all over the place.  We have checked his 'puter for the usual adware and spyware that may hog bandwith and it comes up clean.  He ran a ping plotter test and sent it to me and it looked great, no packet loss showed on it at all.  I did ask him to run another plot during prime time evening hours to see if that changes.  His computer, which is a HP, is less than a year old, has plenty of RAM, Hard Drive and processor to run the game and he had no warping what so ever in Warbirds.
Is there something we haven't thought of here?  Out of the entire squad he is the only one having this problem, we'd appreciate any help in the matter. Thx in advance.................

is everyone seeing him warp, or is it only him seeing the warps? If everyone sees him it is more likely a connection issue, if its just him seeing the warps, it may be a resourse isse.

Also posting the first third of a DXdiag report here could help locate the trouble.

When he warps, everyone around him sees it happen, not just him.  I'll get with him for a DXdiag and post it here as well.  thx.......

Also regarding resources, what type of OS and how many processes are running?
HP, Compaq, Dell seem to load stuff up on thier systems and that can really overtax the resources they have available.

Other things, what type of connection and modem?
Does he warp when using vox, what type of soundcard and mic, is it USB?
Those are just a few I can think of at the moment.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Make sure he has ran his Anti-virus, spyware etc programs. Then make sure the AV is off while flying and that all unecessary programs are killed.

That's all I know. Oh update the sound card drivers etc. That helped me after the new update.

I have always traced warping problems to SOUND Hardware. Onboard sound usually sucks and drags down the processor. Buying a quality sound card ( not the cheapies that use processor time like onboard) will help much.

Have him go to control panel, performance/maintenance, power options, and set it to home/office desktop, and NOT energy star.

Should fix it.

He's running duel core AMD with XP cable modem and warps with and without Vox or our Teamspeak running.
Im leaning towards a connex issue with his ISP, but in another mmog he has a great connex.Im kind of stumped at this point:huh

Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

I knew as soon as you said a less-than-year-old HP what the problem was.  Donkey beat me to it!:D   The default power setting for newer HPs is Energy Star.  AH will NOT play with this setting.  I know, I was a victim for 5 months of horrible warping because of it.  Since then, you are the 11th person I've heard have the same problem.  I think it's a problem occurring often enough with players that some sort of sticky should be made for it.
