Hey, maybe you and your country should start your own network and produce your own show. Take your best shot.

Holy xenophobic kneejerk, batman!

It was a decent series for the history channel, if a bit cheesy.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

I didn't comment on the series. It wasn't a knee jerk, either. He said he didn't like it, so I told him to make his own show, his way. It's always easy for some chump to whine about how someone else does a job, especially when he isn't doing the job or paying the bill.

So you never criticize or complain? If everything is uniformally great, how do you decide what is worth watching?  Sounds like socialism to me.

Cheesy? Can you allow that might be a biased perspective from a non-US observer?

They have had a limited number of shows. There is no way they could get a large population of stories or cover every pilot.

Milo, perhaps sending the story about the pilot you mentioned might get him in the series. I imagine they are going to cover the stories they have the largest amount of data and in some cases access to the actual pilot. Getting someone nominated and having the info might just get them into the show.

As for the criticism about inaccuracy I'll take the word of the actual pilot who was there over some dweeb playing a computer game any day, no matter what nationality they are. There are still a few of them left from WW2 as well as Korea and later conflicts. No show gets everything exactly right but they seem to be trying to be accurate and fair.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Statistics dictate your logic is flawed, though your heart may be in the right place.  The allied airforces had numerical advantage, at least from late 1943 on,  not statistical kill advantage.
Count the downed aircraft, not individual pilot stats.

Military Aircraft Losses (1939-1945)
US 52296
Germany 95000
Japan 49485
Britain 33090
Australia 7160
Italy 4000
France 2100
Canada 2389
New Zealand 684
India 527
Sweden 272
Denmark 154
(Soviet losses, while not listed by the Soviet government were extremely high)

from http://www.100thbg.com/mainpages/history/history4/ww2stats.htm

before I found soviet data on aircraft losses something on tv interested me more. So given the Soviet and Allied tendency in general of just piling men and machines  on the Axis we will just say that they lost in scientific terms a bajillion planes.

we will divide the combined total of 89k Allied planes in half for the Germans and another for the Japanese so 44.5kish for each front plus a bajillion Russkys planes on the eastern.

I think that they choose their shows for a US audience but dont show some off the better kills. I am sure US props have shot down commie jets quite a few times do they show ones that the Pilot used tactics? no they show 2 skyraiders hispano HOing

Too bad that was the 1st Prop v Jet kill of the war. Kinda historicly significant.

Biased in what way? I probably see more variety in TV programming than many in the US have the chance to experience simply by geographical location. I see US shows, British commercial TV, BBC output etc etc... I'd say it was a pretty objective position. History channel shows do seem to be a bit overly dramatic, when perhaps the gravity of the events themselves provide enough of a dramatic backdrop.

Each to their own.

Some 70,000 a/c were claimed by the LW in air combat during WW2 with some 25,000 against Brit and Yank a/c.

i find the series to be outstanding... some of the feats these pilots pulled off are just incredible.

altho... they seem to be rather liberal on how easy it is to lose and gain vertical separation.

my plane in ah never climbed like that.
