Some of the older members might enjoy this video; a reminder of what sims used to be. Notice how they claim realistic FM in each title.
Out of those titles, I only had my hands on FS4.0 and A10:tank killer.

I've been under the impression that dressing up in a flight suit to play computer sims was a dorky thing to do.  I'm sure glad those cool fellows cleared that up for me! :aok

I fondly remember my first foray into Air Warrior this same year, 1990. Took me a while before I figured out how to turn on the tracers. Flight simmer since 1982. :aok

Yep, 1992..??... $265 for my AST 13" SVGA monitor to go with my newly purchased Packard Bell 386/25 with 1mg ram and 80mg harddrive and a 1200 baud modem.  A few months later spent $250 for my Creative CdRom, single speed, with a sound card... and then played Birds of Prey and Chuck Yeager's Flight Sim

I keep hoping someone will craft a modern version of Chuck Yeager's Air Combat.  The Col Tomb dogfight was always a favorite, or flying the Mig-21 to intercept.

The custom mission editor was a lot of fun too.  You could put your F-4 (or any plane) up against anything you wanted.  It was great fun plinking WW2 planes with missiles from the Phantom.

Actually the Sim I miss the most from those early days was Av8b.

You had control of a amphibious task group and flew harriers through a very sweet campaign.

I got into the game a bit later than a lot of you geeks & freaks.

But it was A10 Cuba over Kali that got me hooked on flying vs PEOPLE instead of AI. After that it was all over but the crying when the bills came.  :)

A 486 for a mere $4K? Now I know why I didn't own a PC back then. That really brings back memories. 1990 doesn't seem so long ago but how dated it is now. I actually had Falcon AT and ATP which I played on my work PC straight off the floppys. That machine didn't even have a mouse.  I didn't actualy buy those games. They were copies given to me by a friend. Software piracy! :t I preferred ATP as I felt it was 'realistic'. I actually used to practice instrument approaches on it and NDB holds.  Falcon AT was fun but I could never land the F16. So the trick was to turn on the autopilot and shut down the engine. The F16 would fall vertically to the ground exactly on the intersection of the runways  without damage.

The first one I bought was Chuck Yeagers Air Combat. Even though I still didn't own a computer and had to play it in work. Great game.

yep.. liked red baron then went to aces over the pacific and aces over europe.. then dos AW and then Dos WB and then AH.

Worse thing was the around $3 an hour thing.   Best thing might have been that too tho...  people liked to fight when they paid that kind of money.
