A 486 for a mere $4K? Now I know why I didn't own a PC back then. That really brings back memories. 1990 doesn't seem so long ago but how dated it is now. I actually had Falcon AT and ATP which I played on my work PC straight off the floppys. That machine didn't even have a mouse. I didn't actualy buy those games. They were copies given to me by a friend. Software piracy!
I preferred ATP as I felt it was 'realistic'. I actually used to practice instrument approaches on it and NDB holds. Falcon AT was fun but I could never land the F16. So the trick was to turn on the autopilot and shut down the engine. The F16 would fall vertically to the ground exactly on the intersection of the runways without damage.
The first one I bought was Chuck Yeagers Air Combat. Even though I still didn't own a computer and had to play it in work. Great game.
