He looks bored with the camera man a alittle bit schnockered. ;)

I'm assuming you mean the pilot next to Rudel? (Galland in the background)

Rudel was nuts!
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

No doubt about it! He stayed that way after the war too. :lol

You can't argue that he wasn't good at what he did, tho.

Hehe, he sure did. Was one lucky bugger though.
As far as I remember, Douglas Bader had some talk with him about his tin leg (well, Bader being the expert). Around those days, Gunther Rall had to share a cell (or whatever accommodation) with Rudel as well, - it was him that described Rudel as "Crazy".
There are so few left. Rall is still around though, although he was hospitalized on the 13th of September for some operation.

Nah, that's not Hartmann. Hartmann was blond, that guy is obviously dark haired.

LOL :rofl  Gotta love them old Gerry newsreels.
Anyway, 2000 missions at 200 tanks, - one has to look into that that is quite some survival! 2000 Stuka missions, and he eventually made it into very many more, killing like 500? tanks.
Don't think he would have survived that many over England though :t

Crumbs, quadriceps of iron. I was impressed with the way they got into that Stuka. They just went hop-hop, and in. There's something very European and fundamentally un-English about all that physical exercise; I can't see RAF pilots doing shot-putting, javelin-throwing, press-ups etc before going off into battle.

Off in the links there's some gun-camera footage of a 37mm-armed Stuka, which is very impressive.

Aces High should be in black and white.

LOL dont believe everything, especialy if the movie is filmed for
propaganda reasons. Sure, some Pilots where real sports.
but i also think this guys, when safe landed and survived a mission
needed alot beer, wine or schnaps on a daily base to calm down ;)

Well, many a RAf pilot was actually quite a sportsman. Bader for instance, was an athlete par excellence. So, still with his tin legs, he made Stuka life around the British coastline quite impossible, - with the help of many other pilots that wore their own legs, - of course.
I have read so many anecdotes of pilots, and in many cases sports are mentioned. Pilots on standby would (as anyone that knows what being 20 is all about!) not just sit and eat noodles. There would of course be the restriction of the time, outfit and location. So, anything between sitting and intensive Rugby. Does anyone recall a picture of RAF pilots playing Ping-Pong while on standby? Okay, - Ping-Pong, - if you know it, will make you sweat, - without a mae west :D
BTW, one of the most successful RAF fighter pilots was "Sailor" Malan, - well known to be a robust guy,- as so many others actually. Should I name many of the New-Zealand Pilots that were well known for their physique?
(As well as their scores).
Anyway, if your input was serious, do you seriously think that LW pilots were the only ones looking after themselves?

Erich Hartmann would have looked like a 16 year old standing next to those men.

Didn't they name a famous German pastry after Rudel?
