Fire at sea ain't no joke. I still remember fire school, 33 years ago. I think they devote a whole week to everybody crew training to the new guys today. Seabees, I did fleet training 1st, then, like Army Engineers, but with the Marines. We did Disaster Recovery training every year with refreasher schools. After my Navy training I am rather paranoid about fire, still.
I think I saw it on the History Channel, the Forrestal incident. The missle was an infrared, heat seeker. For some reason it fired. Missle safety procedures were changed after that. Go do a Google, you will find more than you want to know, I bet.
Landings :
========
Widewing taught me how to land on cartoon cv's. Thanks WW. Funny to watch guys do landings to AHII either land or sea. I still miss a wire, sometimes. I am ready at my spacebar brakes in case, usually, I can rollout ok.
In Tower, hit F5, then F8 and observe.
I dogfight worse of most here, but I do pretty good at landings as I wish not to look too silly on people's mission tapes.
To me, landing correctly, any plane, is the most fun of the game. Landing all busted up, even more so.
I saw a guy land the other day just one wheel down. Check "Control D" I think it is, for damage assessment before landing. He didn't. He wiped out and went poof.
