The thing is, if you drive around a beat up car, people automatically lose respect for you and your vehicle.  They lose any thoughts of consideration for you or your ride, increasing the chance that they'll cut you off or add another dent.  Hell, it's already beat up so what's another dent?  And if they're too poor to pay $30 to fix the dent, they don't have insurance either so they won't even report an accident since that would mean loss of license for driving without insurance.

:huh

Here everyone is just afraid of a beat up car. And a "beat up car" means that it's a 20 years old Lada with a Moslim driver where windows are fixed with "scotch" tape and the hull is so rusty that you simply can't see the previous dents.

About two years ago I got so ****ing drunk that I had to get a "shahid-taxi", and that driver who could barely speak Russian called me next evening and tried to make me pay for his broken windshied, he said I have broken it beating my head against a dashboard.

A rifle can be a far more useful tool than a pristine door.

and who in their right mind parks their BMW next to a beat up Chevy?
I give a beat up car more room because --
A they obviously don't care
B they may not be mechanically sound

This very car IS mechanically sound. Going 160km/h (100mph) at the Russian road - it's ok even when the asphalt is completely eaten by frost. It's a 1985 VW Passat. Looks like that Germans mind the experience they had in 1941-44...

Showing a kid how to handle a Kalashnikov 'cause they don't teach it at school anymore - priceless. With AK-74 - style muzzle compensator he shouldn't worry about recoil and make holes in nice groups. And he doesn't have to pull the trigger at all: anyone who sees him with an AK or hears the cocking sound is immediately face down on the ground.

You know, everyone who's over 30 years old recognizes a sound of a  Kalashnikov being loaded...
