Played paintball today with my oldest son
« on: September 29, 2007, 06:33:54 PM »
We had his 11th birthday party today and played at a local field called Paintball Quest (http://www.paintballquest.com). This was the first time that I have ever played and we had a blast. By the time we left the field there were probably 150 people strolling around and joining up in games. This is on a college football Saturday in Alabama when the top two teams are out of town. I can't imagine what it is like when baseball season is in and people don't have games to drive to or watch on t.v.

Overall I liked it and would definitely play it again.

I'm heading over to Skirmish, PA in the Pocono Moutains. I went last year for my friends B-Day party and had a blast! Sometime I hope to go to EMR the castle too (I hear it's better than Skirmish!)

Once your son is 16 google "airsoft" :)  It blows paintball out of the water.  Guns are full scale and work as closely to the real ones as possible.  They shoot 6mm plastic bb's at 300-450ft/sec. The only unfortunate thing is that the bb's don't hurt as much as paintballs.  I'm not sure about the States but in Canada you have to be 18 to own the guns and play, however, some places will let under-agers  play at 16 if the parent is also playing.

Not trying to insult paintball, its a great sport. I'm just an airsoft nut :D

I have a Tippmann Carbine 68.   Most of your "wannabe pro players" chuckle and point.   They chuckle until they approach me and see the 16" Dye Boomstick.   They get pissed when they don't hear me even firing it, because of the modified Venturi bolt I have in it.

I used to run with a group of 16 guys that had our own 80 lb CO2 tank and would play on Private Land.   We haven't played in 3 years.   I miss it.    Latrobe, you play often?   Maybe next summer we can set something up near Dayton and meet in the middle.   Even the Dayton folks could come and play.

I played my first time at some guys house who asked if i wanted to come along. I enjoyed it alot, then my friend invited me to his party and said it be at Skirmish. So, I've only played twice before, but even before that I was looking into paintballing.

The pain is what made paintball great!  To me using realistic looking guns wouldnt be what makes it fun. It would be the fear of getting hit. That to me makes realistic looking guns secondary to the emotion.

What pain? Sure paintballs sting but they don't cause pain.

Yep he is still doing it and I am still helping coach. His team is 3-1 (lost in OT the other night 19-18) and he loves it and is thinking about not playing baseball this coming spring.
