My son already has had some airsoft guns but it isn't the same down in this part of the US. Not enough places to go and run around looking like a paramilitary organization......BUT like my dad said today when these kids walked out of the woods after "drilling for a paintball scenario". They just want to pretend playing Army instead of doing the real thing.

Sure, I'll post em up tomorrow.   I played at 300 fps.   Even at Hell Survivor's here in Pinckney, the ref's were laughing.    The only thing you hear with a paintball in it, is the bolt hitting the back of the receiver.   Past 20 feet, you hear nothing.

I havent played since 1993.

A few coworkers here at the hospital have played non-stop since then.  They want to organize a group time we can all play.  I told them I would but I sold my Tippman SMG-60 and darnit, I just prefer an automatic  :)

(That thing sold for big $$ on eBay when I put it for sale.  A production company bought it, they use special ammo that creates the "sparks" you see in gun fights)

The Airsofts have some sort of paintball ammo, dont they?  One of my friends bought an M-4 that looks like the real thing.  Sweet gun.

I dunno, there's a real difference between being whacked by a .68 caliber paintball and a 7mm thing  :t

Can't say I enjoy airsoft as much as paintball.  The only time I was actually fearing an airsoft gun was when my friend brought out an AR-15 and let 300 some BBs go in a matter of a minute.  Lately I've been playing paintball A TON since my friend recently got a gun as well, just an open field so we put in $20-$30 for 4000 balls and $8 of air for each gun and we play 'til it gets dark.  I have a completely stock Tippmann 98 custom, he has a tricked out Spyder.

The only unfortunate thing is that the bb's don't hurt as much as paintballs.  I'm not sure about the States but in Canada you have to be 18 to own the guns and play, however, some places will let under-agers  play at 16 if the parent is also playing.

Not trying to insult paintball, its a great sport. I'm just an airsoft nut :D

Gryphons and anyone else who has these guns.  I'd like to share a story.

One day while on patrol, the police department recieved several 911 calls of a male walking down a road with an AR-15.  The guy was reported to be in full camo as well.

Several patrols responded to the area since it was near a school as well.  By the way, this happened last spring.  I was the first partol in the area and I nearly ran this kid over.  I jumped out of my cruiser and had my weapon drawn at the kid's head.  I ordered the kid to drop the weapon and to take steps back and then to the ground.  Now the real hairy part was the kid didn't understand what was going on.  (After all, he turned out to be only 16 and wasn't sure what he had done wrong.)  From a cop's view, he was moving too damn slow following commands and wasn't keeping his hand away from the trigger.  This toy gun DIDN'T have an orange tip.  Not that would have changed anything.  (More on this later.)

I secured this toy gun and handcuffed the kid (who was now shaking like a leaf!)  At this point, my back up arrived.  I had a chance to inspect this toy.  Now if anyone has ever handled a real AR-15, We happen to carry the exact model in our cruisers, this thing was IDENTICAL to what most cops carry in Massachusetts.  There is a removeable magazine, the dust cover, forward bolt assist, and the combat stock.  I had never seen the Airsoft products and was amazed at how lucky this kid was.  Not to pat myself on the back, but if this kid ran up against a rookie, the outcome could have been devastating!

Many street survival courses that I've seen show horror stories how criminals will paint their weapons to look like toys.  Anything to have that split second advantage over a police officer.  Thats where the orange tip or any other color of the weapon comes into play.

The kid wasn't charged but his toy gun was confiscated and his parents were spoken to.  It turned out that his father bought the airsoft for him, not realizing the dangers.

Don't get me wrong, I think paintball and the airsoft guns are a great way for kids to have fun.  I did it (paintball) and had a blast.  I just think that its safer if the kids are explained the potential dangers and Airsoft should pull those guns that look like the real thing!

Please everyone, be careful out there!!!!!

What dangers?  That some drama queen in uniform will murder you for carrying around a toy?  So what?  What have you descended to as a human that you must assume they are a mass murder who just hasn't gotten around to inflicting your worst case scenario on the world?  Of course they must be going to murder the whole town, they just needed to buy a slurpy at the 7/11 first.  Quick! call the FBI! No need to simply drive on by and say hi to the poor kid just to make sure.  WTG officer, you saved the world, heres your cookie.

Here is my 10 year old Tippmann that has only had 1 problem ever.   The original copper tubing leaked and I went with a braided hose.

lol, I severly pissed the wife off when I bought the barrel.   It is a 16" Ceramic Boomstick, I paid about $170 back in 1999 for it.   That was more than I bought the marker for.    Best upgrade though.   The Tippmann barrel was 12", loud and largely inaccurate.

I have plowed through saplings to evade with this marker and it never failed to function.   Even when the copper tubing leaked, I could still get pressure to get to 300fps.   I never needed an expansion chamber for it.   I played in 20 degree weather, to 100 degree days here in Michigan and the 20oz CO2 was all I ever needed.    Nitrogen was a consideration, but our group lost interest.

One of the ref's at Hell Survivor's was laughing his prettythang off because I was in a thicket outside of an "urban setup" they have.   This team killed everyone but me, and I got the last two.   The ref was about 50 feet from me, basically telling these two "he's near me guys".

As I said, this "POS" to most, is the farthest from it when used.   I don't like Auto's, all I've ever seen them accomplish is wasting paint.   We had a Marine fresh out of Parris Island in our group, he would not rush our "attack the ridge".   We lost our first guy defending the ridge 45 minutes after we started.   We taunted them by telling them "to get more paint and come back".   My buddy got hit and was Army 82-90 and walk past this kid cowering and got pissed.   "Come on, let's attack the ridge!"    I fell about 1/2 hour later and there were still 4 guys unscathed defending the ridge.    We still meet up and swap stories.   This usually gets mentioned by others.

Ahh...good story...It is kind of sad when the ref has to tell the other team where the guy is :)

I have a 20" sniper barrel getting shipped as we speak :)

As it happens, I get what Obie is on about.....here in the UK, there have been near shootings due to the realistic nature of the airsoft range.......think there's a law been passed so they are not made to look like the real thing.......(which is both a good thing and a bad thing - good as people playing airsoft arent in danger, bad as it devalues the game experience (imo)). There has even been a person shot for carrying a table leg in a plastic bag and swinging round to face a police officer carrying a mp5.........so just goes to show even the simplest of things can catch you out...........

Personally I love paintball........shame i'm such a bad loser..lol.....

I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.
