Bangkok Frame winged squad assessment
« on: September 30, 2007, 06:28:21 PM »
The Fighting 31 would greatly appreciate it if a squad is supposed to wing up w/ us that they show up & if they do, that they follow the orders that were handed out.

Bangkok or Bust:

Frame I -  the 8th FS were a no show when they were supposed to provide cover for our jugs.

Frame II - one squad went out of range & climbed to an ungodly alt when they were supposed to cover our arse's.

Frame III - was alot better and we give a BIG salute to daddog <<>>

Just my assessment, take it how ya want it. <>

this has been a problem in many FSO frames in the past.  i think squads need to do a better job working with one another overall.

after all, this isnt an all out furball event, its a teamwork based event.

Exactly.

Frame II I tried getting a hold of the CO from the other squad to work something out and I kept getting someone else that told us that when we need help that they would drop alt and help us & to not turn fight... BnZ.   Well no chit!!

Just to give you an idea of what rides we had, my squad had P47's while they were in Spits.

As a player in Friday Squad Operations, I play for three reasons....

1.) To Fly a tactical mission with my closest friends, The Unforgiven.

2.) To fly as a part of a large tactical mission with good friends, The FSO Player base

3.) To feel the smallest iota of what some of my heroes from WWII felt like as they winged over into a bomber group or climbed into the bombardiers chair to line up a target. I know it no where near real, but it is the closest thing I will ever get. (oh and to one day shoot down AP Drone :t )

The simple fact of your issue Rattfink, is respect. I am not singling any one person or squad out, but if the general player population respects this event, their squad's FSO leader and the other players and administrators; this issue will go away on its own.

The FSO CM Team strives to make a clear differentiation between FSO and the MA. We built-it, you come. We're ecstatic about the way the event is now and is going in the future. These types of growing pains are expected and healthy. By all means, talk it out. We all have our hand in how the event plays out every Friday. Let's be proactive about making it the best for all of us!

Thanks for your input guys.
Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

No prob. Rep0man.  You think like I do.

FSO is one of the best things in Aces High by far & we greatly appreciate all the hard work that goes into the making of these events.

Communication
« Reply #5 on: October 02, 2007, 07:30:32 PM »
Communication I have found is really poorly done by the CIC's. Not just text but vox channels should be spelled out in the orders. I remember when I ran an event for the allies back in Italy and it really helped getting every squad but one to give me a channel that I could check in with them on. Just a suggestion for those willing to listen.

This is a needed subject, but it is something that has to be mostly handled by the players in FSO. The CM team can't fix everything. :)

That is why we have channel 150 for each side to communicate w/ the other CO’s as well as the CiC.

You hit on a keyword Val., Communication.  Communication between winged squads that have never met before the FSO start should be discussed as to what VOX should be used and or text channel so that squads do not end up where mine did in frame I & II w/ a lack of communication & understanding.

Frame III was great, I contacted daddog & the other fso squad CO’s as to what our plan was.  I did this because we were supposed to be lead by ddadog per the orders.

I'd have to agree that Communication is the key to good teamwork in these events. Those in attack lead roles need to be in contact constantly with those in escort roles. Escorts can't do their job properly if they don't know where you are. Bomber/attack groups need to make their position and course known at all times so the escorts can do a better job of positioning to get the job done. I don't know how many times I've asked where the bomber group I'm supposed to be escorting is and gotten no response. Then to find the bombers got all cut up because of it. Its frustrating as hell especially if you're the side CO.

Comms=Teamwork. Teamwork=winning.

Like that guy said in Gladiator---"Together----as one!"

Can't win if everyone is goin every which way.

I have to agree that communication is a MUST in these events.  FSO is one of the main reasons that I still play this game.  There are still nites when communication falls short, but IMHO, it is alot better than it once was.  I think that as this event grows, and things settle down, you will see the communication become alot better.  I do think that when a CiC does orders, they should designate 150 or whatever text/vox channel they see fit to make sure orders are understood, and flight leads can communicate, etc.  Over the last several FSO's, I have seen a huge turnaround on the coms... but again, sometimes things dont always go as planned.  Overall tho, its good.... but it can be great if we all work together :aok

The side with the best overall teamwork, and communication will always carry the day.  It's been improving the last few weeks from where I have been sitting.  One thing Vater and\or myself always do is to make sure to personally get with whatever one or two squads we are packaged with,...usually in the tower before pre-flight.  We go over, everything from orders, tactics, strat, vox and text channels, and rally locs.  Takes all of about 2 minutes.

Also, and one of the nice side benefits of FSO, the longer you fly with the same guys in all the groups here, the easier and more effective the teamwork approach becomes.  Breakdowns do happen, for sure but it's still the best part of AH for certain.

Fly FSO.

I notice that when one side is communicating its a short event with one side dead in the first hour. Just notice how often you run one squad into 2 or 3 and thats an indication of who is talking and who is not.
