x6800 runs @ 2.82
« on: October 04, 2007, 12:17:22 PM »
Hello, I just got a great buy on a x6800 on ebay. I then bought a new mobo similar to the one Krusty uses, I think, so I could use my old agp and ddr. My model is:  ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 LGA 775 VIA PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard .

Now, I just put everything together and it started right up. Cool, I didn't expect that. :lol  I used a way old 40 gig Hd to just get things up and running. After installing XP I went to "System Properties" and it says: Intel [R] Core [TM]2 CPU X6800 @ 2.93  2.82 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM.

Why does it say 2.82? Is this a bottle of the barrel chip or something? Shouldn't it say 2.93  2.93? The prescott on my old pc says 3.40 3.41.

Also, after getting my my mobo I realized it only has two ddr slots for ram, and I only got 512 sticks. I want 2 gigs, so back to ebay for some ddr2 ram.

The guys says matched pair of Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA663 ddr2-667. Cool, just what I need. But, when I get them, they don't even look the same. The graphic labeling is different when the two are compared side by side. I wonder if they are even a matched set at all. One stick says:
BL12864AA663. 16FDZ    CL1117T. WM  72593         and the other says:
BL12864AA663. 16FD      CL111WY.  73  6 5036

Now what I am getting at here is will these sticks act like a matched set? Are they a matched set? I think the specs are the same for both sticks, I think? But, maybe not a truely matched set. Will this matter?

Thank you. Clutz

OK, I just bumped up my FSB to 267mhz and my computer did not blow up, :lol  This is my first ever attempt to over clock. Actually I think I just tweeked it in. I went from 266FSB to 267FSB. So, now it says 2.93 2.93 in system properties. Cool!

But what will this do to all the other things in my pc? Can I leave it this way or should I go back to 2.66? And, anybody that will help on my question about the ram, that will be appreciated very much. TY

This is a good day. My first over clock and I didn't burn anything up. :lol But, I feel one notch is not enough!  :lol  I want more now. :lol

I recently bought a E4500 for my wife for internet and upped the FSB just for fun. It now runs at 2.8ghz instead of the rated 2.2 with no voltage or cooling changes.

It probably could go even higher but there's no point of stressing it for casual online use. I did try prime95 for a good 3 hours with no problems.
