AH problems with Acer 8215 laptop
« on: October 05, 2007, 01:48:17 AM »
Yesterday I installed Aces High for the first time into my laptop and ran into some mysterious problems with it. First the game was jamming the whole computer and I had to switch power off to reboot as it wasn't responding to any windows key combinations (alt+f4, ctrl+alt+del etc.). Then I went to AH forums and noticed Skuzzy's post about AMD and Intel Multi-core CPU's and followed the instructions there. Now I was able start the game.

First here are the specs of my laptop:

Acer TravelMate 8215 WLMi
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Intel Centrino 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4Mb/667)
15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256MB/512MB Hypermemory
2048 (2x1024)MB DDR2
160GB 5400rpm SATA / DVD recorder
802.11a/b/g

The first problem is immediately visible when AH has been started with the defaul 1024x768 resolution and it displays the main menu background image (with the 109 shooting a mustang) and the clipboard menu flies in. There is some problem with the lighting of the clipboard as it in very dark gray color and has some random flickering.

Next problem is visible in the tower and in flight, anytime when the clipboard is active, which is that the second panel of the clipboard keeps rolling around all the time. By second panel i mean the additional panel which used to display some additional settings for example in the arena setup menu. If i recall correctly the MOTD is also displayed in this second panel.
It seems that the second panel is attached from its upper right corner to the upper left corner of the main clipboard panel and it just keeps swinging full 360 degree circles around that attached corner. Any idea what might be causing these?

In addition I had problems when spawning a plane into runway. The whole view was bouncing around wildly and it didn't respond to any controls, except to ESC key which brought up the clipboard where i was able to use the end sortie button to return to the tower. I was able to fix this problem, by experimenting with the graphics settings like terrain optimization etc. So now that works and I'm able to actually play the game.

Fixed it for me Skuzzy, thanks :-)

I should've realised microsoft had their sticky hands in it, thought I had outdated video drivers at first.
