Heading to the range this Sunday
« on: October 11, 2007, 07:52:01 AM »
Yes, the liberal, left wing, Amerihater known as Curval is joining the Bda Rifle Club (assuming they accept me).

I will meet the "guys" this Sunday and hopefully someone up there will sponsor me, although because I am a former non-comm in our local regiment the fellow in charge said that it would be a no-brainer to allow me in.

Then they will do a police check on me and once approved I will be able to purchase a rifle and bring it in.

I will be needin advice on what to buy and also some advice on a wee issue I have with my right eye which is not 20/20 like my left eye, which has to compensate for the right eye in my daily life.  Trouble is...I shoot right handed.  I don't want to switch to shooting left handed.

I will post more about this after my meeting on Sunday.

Police check? Ah England right? Canada?

I made the switch to my left eye a long time ago and it worked very well. Building new muscle memory is as easy as dry firing lefty in your living room. The only real downfall in it is there are less lefty rifles and bows available on the market.

The plus side is you will shoot far better and be able to shoot from either side. I dislocated my left shoulder right before an African safari a few years ago and my trip was saved cause I could also shoot righty.

Ive known a hundred guys who switched and each one was glad they did. The real hard part is just doing it the first few times. Good luck.

When using optics (microscopes, telescope, rifle scope) you always use your dominant eye.  So Jim you  are exactly right.  That's all you need to worry bout.  My right eye is my dominant eye but I have the worst vision out of it.  Just thought I'd back Jim up.

Carry on,

So if my right eye is dominant I should use it to shoot even if the target is blurry?

How do I know if it is dominant?  Does it break out ball gags, whips and chains and make this declaration at some point?

Curval, focus on an object through a hole or something that you can gradualy bring closer till it's right next to your face.  Normaly the dominant eye will be the one whose line of sight you bring the aperture/gunsight along.

There's these things they invented a few years back.....they're called spectacles.

Now wouldn't it be just a little bit cool to be able to say, instead of "yeah, I just use them for reading", "Yeah, I just use them when I wanna pop a cap in someone arse."

Cool, I'll try that.  I suspect it is my right eye, but we'll see.
