Last weekend (Sunday) my oldest told me he had to do a show and tell at school. He wanted to bring in his Pokemon cards.
Now, he knows I am not a big fan of this pokemon stuff and I told him that I didn't think that was a good idea. I asked him how he would do it. Would he simply hold up each card...after card...and say "I have this one...and this one and this one..." ad nauseum?
He reluctantly agreed it wasn't a good idea.
"What else would you like to show the kids?" I asked.
"How about.....long pause...one of your model planes?"
I have a small die cast collection going..
He didn't think I'd say yes, but I do have a few cheapie ones I bought at a toy store in Dallas so I told him he could take a P51 Mustang. It was "Big Beautiful Doll" that he chose, so we went online and found a picture of the real one and printed up a 4X6 photograph for each kid in his class. We then spent some time over this past week going over what he would say.
I had our biggest clients in for meetings on Tuesday, but Monday night we had a dinner, then Tuesday night, so Wednesday and Thursday nights were all we had left.
We got it done and he had his presentation on Friday. His mother was at the school for lunch duty anyway and she stayed and watched.
From all accounts it went incredibly well. He began by talking about WW2 and how it started, requiring him to talk a bit about WW1. Then he pulled out the plane and gave a speech about that. Then as his finale he pulled out the pictures of the real plane and gave one to each kid.
The teacher was absolutely thrilled.
The other kids who presented included a boy with some leggo pyramid he made and a girl who brought in her dollie.

My kid's presentation had all the kids at the edge of their seats and asking a whole bunch of questions. For any question he couldn't answer he gave the child a prepared answer I gave him..."Good question, I don't know the answer but I will find out and let you know on Monday." He has 3 of those.
He did it so well and had absolutely no fear of speaking to the class and couldn't understand why other kids were scared.
The other thing he did that made his father happy was on Monday when I picked him up from school and brought him to the office as usual. The son of the principle of the group that were in for the meetings (and basically the #2 guy in the company) was in the boardroom so I told my son to go in and introduce himself.
He walked right up to the guy put his hand out and said "Hello Mr.... It is very nice to meet you."
The client was taken aback.."You don't have to say it like that, my name is .... (first name) and it is very nice to meet you too." The guy was really impressed.
Proud of the little guy I am.
