first series of 8x10 test prints made

this was the first one that i ran.  it turned out surprizingly well.
(thanks to agent 360 for the heads up on the printer.)  

i ran six others as well.  

i am planning on starting with a series of 100 of each, numbered and signed.

i am curious to know what ya'll think i might be able to charge for each print.

what would you pay for an 8x10 photo that you liked?

it's a standard model.  they mass produced them.  mine has one too.

All the prices I listed below are what I'd pay for 8 X 10, unframed, unmatted:

I'd pay $80 - $100 for an 8 X 10 picture if it was one specific picture that I was looking for.

If it was one of a series that I was collecting (but wasn't looking for any in particular, just any one which was in that series), I'd pay $45 - $60.

If it was one that I wasn't specifically looking for (and not in a series that I was looking for: a newbie), but stumbled across & really liked I'd pay $25 - $30.

LOL no kidding, I beleive my ex's was a much, umm, wider model.  I'm certain it had a "WIDE LOAD" sign on the end

JB88, are these photographs?  Or are they a litho print of the photograph?  Reason I ask is a litho print would have a wider border area around the image.  That would make signing and numbering easier.  Do you sign and number on the photo itself with a pen, or use pencil underneath the photo in a border area?  I'm just curious about how that's done so it looks good and is not distracting to the art.

It's the optics, not the amount of pixels. There's a common misconception (created by misleading marketing) that the quality of digital pictures is directly related to the available resolution. It's not.. just as before the optics define the photo.

i took this picture...well, all of them, with a 128 dollar canon camera that i bought at wal mart. 5.0 megapixels.  i could probably blow the original up to 11x14 given the original file.

post processing?  yes, but i would do the same with film or any other camera...there are just certain things that should be done for balance.  i pulled in some of the details in much the same way as i might have done with film in a darkroom.


my goal is to convert the cheap camera into a nicer camera using the proceeds from the one that i have.  a difficult goal, but not impossible...not entirely anyway.

an interesting developement...a friend of mine gave me his sony camera tonight its on loan for two weeks on the condition that i make him a print of an image that i take with the camera.  not a bad deal for the chance to experiment with slightly better point and shoot than i have.

my goal at this point is to purchase a canon 30d with proceeds from the lowend that i have.  i expect that it will broaden my perspective.   cant wait.

p.s. - as for chiaroscuro...one of my favorite painters is Caravaggio...i am sure that he has been an influence in some way.  the man was pure brilliance.
