What 8 player brought
« on: October 14, 2007, 11:06:19 AM »
Hello,

Used to play the 4v4 some.  Not because it was free,  I was there even though I had a trial account.  I liked the 4v4 better than the massive arena.   You got to know the people you were flying against.  You could  give advice, or get some.  See how different people used there planes and tactics.   It was fun because you knew everyone on the server, and what they were flying.  And if someone was being obnoxious, he would be asked to stop it or leave by the host.   It was friendly....

I miss the small arena and maps.   I have never been into the massive groups vulching fields, flying forever into nothing,  50 planes chasing you all over at once, and everyone flying 2 feet above the ground.

I am waiting for the next generation of gameplay from HTC.  But I need something better than the arena's now.  Maybe  8 player servers with a subscription?  Or host a few on your equipment? I would be up for that.

Its fun when you show the new players how to get up to alt first then attack.  Then the real fights start.  I miss that. Cant do that in the mains.

the TA and DA,  are more personal ways of fighting and would provide you with what you have described.

Good fights can be found in the MA too if you know how to read the map.

I think allowing subscribers to host a private 8 player room would be nice to eliminate the "freeloader" aspect.

After my trial period in 2002 I played H2H for about a year before moving up to the MA.  I found it to an excellent training tool, especially for ACM.  Why people criticized it I have no idea.  If they just want to stay in H2H for free then who cares, but if the system produces a quality player every so often then more power to it.

I'm totally with you. I miss the personalization of the H2H arena's. Usually you knew everyone in the arena's and what they flew, and most of the time, how they flew it. In the H2H arena's you'd have the good 1v1 fights goin on alot of the time and if they saw you screw up, they'd let you know once the fight was over how you could do better. The MA isn't like that, it's too much about score and what not.
Once read a siggy that was pretty good, can't remember who's it was though.
"Being ranked #1 in Aces High is like being the skinniest kid at fat camp or the smartest kid on the short bus"

About the low alt. fights... I love em.
I fly the p51D Mustang and it's a blast to get 'em down low and see people flock to you. Been in quite a few really good fights, one of the best, a rolling scissors with a YAK where there was more than one issue of staying out of their pipper and keeping co E, but the trees, we were in the middle of the dense tree area and at the bottom, we were scraping the ground ( fuzeman)

I tend to carry my H2H attitude into the MA's and I try to give advice, but usually people say something along the lines of "you got lucky noob/dweeb" something along those lines. Once I was flyin my Lancs at 20k and shot down a 262, tried to tell him not to fly straight on a bombers 6, he ended up loseing 4 more 152's before he cussed me out and left.

The H2H if you were to try something like that, you'd be gone in a heartbeat. Do I miss em? Yes. But I make do with what I have, and that's the MA's.

It's gone, get over it.  If you have any doubts as to why it's gone, just read the old H2H boards.

glad the freeloaders are gone.

I hope the HTC will implement some day a new 8-player feature.

I really miss those h2h air-races and fast action FFA's with limited plane set.

MW and EW are about the same size as H2H, roster-wise. As the Rooks were simultaneously being ganged in BOTH LW arenas last nihgt, I tried DA...went to the furball sector. where it looked as if 80% of the people were. Saw 4-5 163's cherry-pickng a couple of zekes, and my jug. JUST like H2H:aok

What’s up with the continual “freeloader” community bashing Ack-Ack? Yes, there were some problems.

Do you like those skins you use in the MA?
What about NHawks MA terrains as well as every other terrain currently available in any arena including all the ones in the MA arenas?

You realize they had their roots in the H2H community? That buried in the source files for the MA terrains are the names of former H2H players. And that now, new people interested in suffering the steep learning curve of terrain making has all but dried up? You understand that right? No, I guess you don't.

The lack of private arenas (to test ideas) bothers me, because as someone on the terrain team, I don't see where the next generation of terrain builders will come from. A great tool for our work has been denied to us by one or two hackers. I'm with every other poster in this thread on this one, they understand it'll never be "free" again but more importantly, they understand something of what we've all lost.
Easy in-game again.

check out our old roster, yes this was a H2H squad, yes I was in it (trigger2 down at the bottom as formation X-Ray commander, it was just getting goin when H2H shut down) but if you look closly, the first person under the Enlisted ranks is someone I think everyone knows and respects

TexHill

Who up to my last promotion (4 days befor H2H shut down) had taught me alot of what I know (except for what TA's taught me) and was my superior.

You misunderstand Trigger, I know Ack-Ack as a respected member of the AH community, his disrespect to the H2H community makes no sense and IMO is short sighted and possibly completely uninformed.

IL2 1946 is about $19 now with nothing more to buy, ever... depending on your computer speed and connection you can host your own room of up to 128 players.

Just an idea.
