Sounds to me like this kid was ready to start some stuff. Tear gas, a gas mask, body armor, AK-47 and a shotgun?? That is pretty scary stuff for a HS student to own.

Wearing body armour to school, unless you live somewhere like Compton, is probably a tad suspicious don't you think?  Going off the article, his evasiveness was probably also a little worrisome.

While doing a search for the "Clear Out" gas I found this.

Well, it does work, because robbers do not tend to be equipped with gas masks. No need for a shoot out. Just make sure you're wearing a gas mask. It might take some time to clean it up, but at least you lost nothing and risked nothing :)

I wouldn't arrest anyone for wearing a bulletproof vest at school. Why would someone ban those, especially in the freedom country, where you're allowed to shoot a robber. You'd think it would be a constitutional right to wear a bulletproof vest :D

From what I read, the kid was not arrested for wearing a BP vest.

Wearing a bulletproof vest was just an indicator, something out of the ordinary that caused the school officials to take a closer look.

When the law enforcement officials took a look, they executed a search warrant and found the worries of school officials reasonably justified.

Maybe I mis-read the article, I am at work and do get interupted by phone calls from my sales department constantly.

He had the vest on at school, but the guns were at home.  

Last time I checked, it was completely legal to have a AK and a shotgun and the ammunition for those at your house.  It is also legal to purchase 'long guns' (shotguns/rifles) and ammunition as long as you are 18+.  



There has to be more to the story, the charges were Armed Tresspassing, he was a student at the school so that's not a tresspassing charge.  Grand theft, nothign in  the article mentioned him stealing anything.  And Criminal Mischief, my firend got charged with that for shooting people on the sidewalk with a water gun from a hotel balcony... kinda like disorderly conduct, it's the catch all law to arrest you for being annoying.

Isn't it illegal for your average Joe blow to own or wear a bulletproof vest to begin with?

But the only illegal thing supposedly found was marijuana.  Nothing else done was illegal.
