You dont consider somebody keeping track of how many hours you play a game a "spy" function?

Yes, it may do so openly but that's simply nobody's business. Why would you want to send that information to a third party?

The definition of "spyware" is a program that harvests and relays information on a computer's activity without the user's informed consent.
A program that relays such information with the user's consent is NOT a spyware, but a simple and legit data communication program.
If you consider xfire a spyware, then any program that detects and communicates your online status (like msn, yahoo, skype, or any other instant messenger) is a spyware as well. Yeah, rght'o. :D

Why would you want to track your deaths and kills in Aces High? Or any other kind of information?
Displaying the game i'm playing is quite useful for my friends to know, and as such come play with me without even needing to ask. It's a completely opt-in program. You display it when you want, when you don't you just keep the program shut down and it relays nothing.

That's why i put "" around "spy function".

You haven't heard about what e.g. skype does with your BIOS information, do you?

You're laughing now.. but you should think about this more carefully after you receive your first "personalized" ad.

It has nothing to di with spying. Someone spying me is someone that's keeping me under surveillance without me knowing. If i download a program to purposedly track and display what game i'm playing (it even gives me an handy forum signature that does it, mind you), there's no act of spying. I'm just WILLINGLY providing information.

I use skype since when it was released, and guess what, i didn't have any spyware, or "personalized ad" problem since.

I don't know anything about this "Xfire" but we have been Skype users for over 2 years and never had any kind of "personal ads" problem.
Skype is a much used program in the visually impaired community and I have never heard mention from any of those that we talk to about any of these problems.

[You can post your support here :)

Considering we requested that we get rid of the "request to join" pop up screens, I don't figure we need to be getting IM's etc. during our time on AH.

I vote no on this.

If you want to know if your buddy is on, just send him a PM and as him!

Won't make a difference here, it's more of a petition, you can't sign, "Not in favor of" especially since this petition is for a program ran by a company not owned by HTC.

Sure. But there's a huge difference between what HTC is doing in their own product vs. a company collecting data to from many games/activities which can be matched to personal records.

If you dont understand what the difference is - i dont know what to say.

As long as i WILLINGLY provide that data, there's nothing malicious in the program, and as such, your point is moot, sir.
Sorry about that :D

How in the hell is this "program ran by a company not owned by HTC" going to interface with a program that IS owned by HTC without HTC's consent?

Ugh... Donzo old bud... Think about what you just typed and drink a few brews and go back and read it.  Winblows has lots of programs that interface with AH and I doubt Mickeysloth asked for any consent.  ROFLOL... Just yanking yer chain bro. :p
