I have been quite disapionted when trying to get missions up. I did a seaarch on the forums and came to one conclusion, well several actually but only one that is pertinent to this forum :-).

What would a good mission be?

Wo what do you think is a good mission load out that would make you wnat to join?

Say a NOE heavy fighter attack on a town or base?

Just like some opinions from you guys so I can taylor some missions to get the best responses.

I know when I was with the Rough Raiders in War Birds long time ago... there would always be squads posting open missions, yet here noone seems willing to post them or join in on them. I loved the panic of the enemy when 12 fighters would pop up from NOE and then domb the base and folow up with the strength to cap it. Even if we failed to take the base it would draw alot of their forces away from other areas and they would suffer from the attack indirectly. Also you get to know alot of guys when you fly missions.

So please let me know what it takes to make an appealing mission for you.

And remember if you are new to missions join up and just follow instructions, it is a good way to learn.
Thanks

I think it has to do with confidence in the mission poster and the guys that are joined up.  I fly missions with the Freebirds and 68s along with our squad missions (Pigs on the Wing).   A  realistic goal, good mix of planes to accomplish that goal, and fun guys to fly it with are the ingredients I look for.

We do some basically pointless fighter sweep missions sometimes that don't accomplish much, but it's fun to come blazing into a furball with 15-20 guys in the same plane.

I say a good mission is one with lots of people (15-30+). Otherwise it's just a coordinated small assualt.

Most people don't join missions if the mission planner is someone new or someone they don't know. I personlly like the big bomber runs, HQ raids, and 50 110's NOE raids. I also enjoy the Fighter Sweeps in pony's and P-38s.

Whatever you do DON'T do this (I did.  Re-posted from another thread):

I rarely set up missions but one night I decided I'd organize a B-17 mission over an airfield then a VB base.

I set it up for 10 pilots, full load out of 1000 pounders. I kept announcing the mission on our country channel and kept setting the launch time back until I finally had a full roster.

OK. 2 minutes to launch. 1 minute to launch. What the hell? I'm in the hanger throttle wide open! I'm headed toward a building. Turn, turn, turn I think. Uh-oh, I see others crashing. I'm on the radio... "stop, stop, stop!" People are saying something to me which I'm sure isn't complimentary as I watch the carnage unflod but I'm lost in the terror of the moment trying desperately to get off safely myself.

Somehow I got one plane off the field and so did two others but they're well ahead of me now. I'm on the radio. "Stop, stop, stop, we need to re-do this with a spawn setting. If you're up please bail" I finally got close enough to the guys in front of me and we all bailed. I re-set the mission and thankfully everone re-joined the second time but that's probably my dweebiest moment.

Sincere appologies to all who trusted in me that night.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I love to watch those bomber mission that spawn the wrong way and everyone crashes :lol .

Probly the most famous is Betty's 54 bomber pilots, 162 bombers (may be wrong on the #'s) mission where everyone crashed into a mountain :rofl . I wish I was in a jeep when that happened and land 100 some kills in a jeep!

Mission depend highly on whats going on in the arena at the time. Knowing "when" to run an NOE mission, or a high alt is one of the deciding factors to a successfully mission.

The other thing you need is a reputation. Building a good rep as a good mission planner/leader is even more important than knowing "how" to run a mission. If people don't believe in you, they won't join.

To build a rep, start with small missions. Take a few fighters hvy with alt and take out the radar in the area of a base capture, then cap. Once you start getting more people involved move up to VHs and ord with the Radar, even more hit the towm.

It could take weeks before you get a good rep. Joiun other missions to saee how they run them too.

Joining other people's mission will build you a reputation all by itself. People will know you better, they will recon  you are a helpful, reliable player. That will help you enormously to get other experienced players joining your missions at a later stage.

Also your conduct is important. Don't advertise your missions like "<<<<<<<*********MISSUN UP********>>>>" every 10 seconds, or the best you will get is a bunch of squeakers and a mass .squelch ;)
And if you don't get enough players (will happen often unless you are very popular), dont cry about it on countrychannel. People don't like whiners and dissing your own team will only get even less support next time.

i dunno, i like AAtalons missions and if hes on ill join. we aren't always sucessful but its usualy fun.

i realy loved the one where we took like 12 ju87 with 1800kg bombs to hit a town lots of fun. i even killed a ki with those measly front guns.

thing that most bugs me though is missions where planes are too overloaded with fuel. you almost never need full fuel for a pony unless your going two or three sectors.
if its an NOE raid and less than a sector id take half.

oh yea and missions that go to a base where there is a huge furball between all three countries usualy end up failing when all the fighters get draged into it.
and base cap missions that turn into furballs with no real acomplishment.
really a letdown IMHO.

I remember betty's HQ raid...we had about 28 sets of 24s...she forgot to set the spawn, we all went from the hanger and hit the hill...FIREWORKS!!

Thankfully we all got back up and headed for the HQ...sadly out of 28 people 6 survived...and 4 actually hit the HQ...

Great input, allot more positive than what I had found on my search on missions.  I will continue posting mission (mainly heavy fighter strikes) and hope to get some tag alongs so I can hope to atleast do some damage to them other guys. :-)

WOO:aok  Thanks for the comment, just as stated abbove by fugitive, start off with small missions then as you progress and your rep as a mission runner is reconized you'll gain more supporters for missions. Myself and DREDger are the main rooks mission runners so our rep for making good missions are quite high, you can ask just about any rook, and they'll let you know about our mission running status and success rate.

as stated above, thanks for the comment and support mate :aok  :)  I love running missions. Probably the main reason i'm such a good mission planner is the varitey ( spell check not at home, no firefox :( ) I tend not to try and do the same mission over and over, and another factor is probably the time you run certain missions. For instance, don't run a HQ raid missions inthe morning when it's only about 100 people overall in the arena, it won't work. Try something smaller like a quick strike mission of about 6-12 people, that's more likely to work.

Hope this helps mate :aok

yea the last few missions ive flown have been with bombrich was pretty fun going up in marauders and droping ord then strafing the town,.

good inteligent and strategic planning are a must even if its not a base cap mission. i lvoe a good strat run or anything that hampers the enemy's ability to fight.

oh yea and when planning missions watch  the eny people tend to get mad when they join a mission and the only planes that can take off are bombers.
