Was just up in LW having a discussion with one of the other players. He was telling a newbie that weapons convergence is measured in feet. I interjected and said convergence distance, as shown in the hangar, is measured in meters.

Who is right?

I note the Help section on this site doesn't mention meters or feet when discussing convergence.

Only one other guy piped in saying it was in feet. I was amazed there weren't even a few more people willing to say it was one way or the other.

I'm 99.9% sure it's measured in yards.

Distances in AH are in meters (HINT: 1.0k, 3.5k, 6.0k...etc) therefore, convergence would be in meters as well. I have had this arguement with several other players who can't seem to get it.

It's yards.

Cheap and easy Insta-Proof? Go offline, climb to 3000 FEET. Fly over the tiger on the runway. Distance is reported as 1.0K.

3000 feet = 1000yards.

everything in AH is yards.

when you see an icon at 800 that means it is 800 yards away.

when you see 2.5k that means it is 2500 YARDS away, NOT 2.5 kilmoeters, the "K" is for "thousand" think like car RPM's same concept. 5 on your gauge is 5000 RPM.

5K in game is 5000 yards.

in convergence you are setting yards also. 250, 275, 300 whatever you choose it is yards. that way you know if you set 200 convergence and the enemy Icon is at 200 you are shooting in your convergence zone.

there are no meters or any type of metric measurement in AH, and HTC has stated they will not implement it either.

That does clear it up, even for me. I was under the impression it was in meters because of the "K" after the distance on the enemy icon. While there is a difference between meters and yards, I don't know that it would be enough to affect game play.

Oh, but I believe elevation, as shown on the map when you select "Field Altitudes", or whatever that selection is, those are measured in feet, right? At least those measurements always worked for me when I've used them as feet.

yes, base elevations are in feet above sea level

2.0K would be 2,000 feet, 3.3K is 3,300 feet and so on.

field alts are measured in feet

altitude ( looking up at an icon above ) is measured in feet but is reported using the yards measurement

in the horizontal you are using yards......

the key thing to remember that when you see a bogey above you or below you , remember 1K = 3,000 feet in altitude...........you either will overspeed or lose all E ( energy ) if you do not pay attention.......

So, when I see a con 1k (co alt, normal forward view) he is 1000 feet?

But when I see a con directly overhead (up view) and his icon says 1k its 3000 feet?

So what happens when I see a higher con (say in forward up view) and his icon says 1k?

you are misunderstanding I think...

ALL Icon ranges are reported in yards always.

many people just don't realize that a con 1K icon range directly above or below is a difference of 3000 feet in altitude is what TC is saying.

most planes only climb max about 3000-4000 feet a minute, so even a 1K altitude advantage is quite a bit.

I probably did misunderstand.

So an icon that states 1k, wether its above, below, infront, behind, left up, right down is 3000 feet (1000 yards) away.

Think I got it cleared up, at least in my mind.
