What happened?
« on: October 23, 2007, 05:56:31 PM »
I played AH back in 2002 for the first time. Due to incompatibility issues with my crap gfx card, lack of funds hehe, etc.

Coming back I have noticed some drastic changes in AH2. And Im not just talking about game mechanics. That was expected. I'm more or less referring to the community.

Granted, I may have just come on during a bad time but, people seemed less friendly than I remember.

Everytime some group of guys took a base/town/etc, no "wtg ##" or anything. Just silence in country chat. No 's for landed kills, good fights, etc. This was in both LW arenas. It just felt, dead? No camaraderie at all. It kind of left me feeling disappointed.

Is this the norm or did I just happen upon a slow night? What I missed most about AH was the warm and support community. Is this no longer present?

Seems the same to me fella, everyone who shoots me down gets a salute, even if it was a pick, vulch etc..........(and there are many many many who shoot me down - I spend more time giving salutes than flying most nights..lol).

Could just have been a slow night fella, this is a warm place to be....oh, and welcome back!

Wurzel:)
I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.

While many things may have changed with an ever increasing and younger communtiy, this particular thing is defenitely not the norm.

Whew! Good thing :)

I have some of the fondest memories of this online community. More than any other I have been a part of.

Anyone by any chance remember the Blue Thunder squadron? I flew with them a number of years back by the callsign BTHayze :)

Thanks for the WB and hope to see you guys in the sky!

I haven't seemed to have that problem.  I give and get 's almost every night from competitors.  Likewise I seem to get and give WTG's almost every night from both countrymen and competitors.

I guess maybe you get what you give?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Ohhh boy, if you think the community is bad now, just wait for summer vacation to come around again! :lol

I wasn't around in 2002 but here are some of the tings you will see in AH2 today - 20K BnZing temp's and TYPHs, massive gordes of la-7's, alt f4 joke everyday (mostly during the summer vacation), HO-Whiners, and a new kind of bombing LANCstuka.

These tgings aren't everyday things but are some of the more annoying things I find. :)

I don't see as many "WTG's" or "" as I use to, nor do I give as many. In "the old days" there wasn't as much Hoin and ganging as there is now. I'm not going to one guy out of the 6 chasing me, or the HO tard blazing in with his cannons.

Friends and foes alike get and WTGs, and I see enough to give me hope that not ALL the honor is gone from the game  :aok

I tend to not give as many "WTG's" as in the past, at times I think they are overdone.  When you see the text buffer fill up for a 2 kill sortie, you know its more a popularity thing than a flying thing.

I'm more likely to shoot a or a "nice sortie" if I see someone land 5 or 6.
Also plane matters, la7's and spit 16's won't see many from me. But if you fly a Yak, a c.205, p47, you are more likely to get one.

Support diversity not mediocrity. Its really not that hard for most people to go out and land 2 with a spit 8/16, Nik, or La7. So I tend not to bother as much for those.  Also partly depends on how busy I am.

What I do try to do is send a to anyone who was nice enough to die for my guns. Seriously, I really appreciate you doing that. A from me costs me nothing, and if it helps take some of the sting from your losing, well thats a bonus. If I miss you, or you don't see it, chances are I was too busy flying to get it out there.

Sorry get ya next time! Till then here's one from me

You must not be flying in the same arena as I am my friend... I give and get 's regularly and the WTG's are many for base captures. The time you fly could also be a factor. I usually fly aroung 4PM Pacific and get the bulk of North America guys flying.

I DO agree that alot of the younger players  (yes I'm being polite and NOT calling them S......rs) and two week guys don't use the established etiquette... Give 'em time, they'll catch on.

Welcome back and watch your 6!:aok

I remember spanking the BT's around a bit as a JB back in the day :D

welcome back to the game. :aok

oh and on topic YES a ton has changed. I know the old community you speak of, I think it is dead and gone sadly.

You probably remember nights with 20+ MAW online, and other famous large squads, RJO missions, and things like that.

I haven't flown in a few months, but I haven't seen anything like those days in a few years it seems. It most definitely is a different world in the MA.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I fly nit, and I see wtg's and such all the time.

I will even wtg a 2 kill sortie if I don't know the name, but know he is a nit.  My reasoning on that is, it may be a 2 weeker that needs the extra boost..

I have a good fight less than once a week these days.  It's usually some old-timer who isn't scared to fight regardless of plane, alt, etc.  They always get a <> from me, and we might go back and forth on the highlights of the fight.

Part of the problem is also ch 200 related.  Some vets don't tune Ch200 b/c of the BS that can inundate it.  So unless you use the .salute playername command, they won't see your <> or GF!

The community has change IMHO and it's somewhat sad.  There are fewer people I enjoy flying with, and fewer people I enjoy flying against.

The community is not the same as before. I noticed that too when i returned a year ago. When you do find many of those old sticks and learn to ignore the new elements its still very good though :) You just need more filters than you needed before. One gets used to it pretty fast, and I settled in pretty fast after my fairly long time away from the game.
