Nonsense, I heard some limos collided when trying to get to the home owners' private helicopters. Some "you are so not invited to my party" were heard.

Nobody's shooting at rescue or fire aircraft/helos either.  And I read that some people who lost their houses and ended up at refugee shelters are actually volunteering their time to make life better for everyone else in the shelter, instead of b**ching/moaning about how unfair life is and how the country owes them something.

This whole ordeal smacks of a conspiricy. A congressional investigation should be carried out to find out the reason for no rioting ,killing , looting , price gouging etc.

We as americans should be up in arms over this entire ordeal.

I cannot believe things have to come to this for people to realise that each of us has something to offer in way of an SUV , HUMMER , Ferrari , Beemer , or some other trashy vehicle to donate to these people.

I for one will NOT be sending ANY type of aid to these people. If they can get thier crap together that easy then I say the heak with em. I won't help em a bit.

It's sickening to no end.....I may need some type of theropy after this is all done.

I heard a little while ago that Google Maps is updating their imagry every couple of hours in the effected areas.

Reports keep pouring in...  Looters being chased away by neighbors because the cops are busy saving people, hotels giving fire refugees price discounts...  A mom who had her house burn down telling her daughter "We'll be ok, because we're stong" instead of hollering for handouts and demanding stuff...  It's crazy.  How can those people live with themselves?

Its the improper fire breaks. These things have been neglected for YEARS and the feds should have been putting money into this long ago. It's a travesty. An absolute scam and someone needs to be held accountable for this.

Fire breaks would not have done it! It is a good idea for normal fires.

If they were true victims, they'd be complaining that the motor home wasn't something or other good enough, on tv saying some govt official or another owes them something, and in general stomping their feet over the injustices being done to them.

Realize I'm being sarcastic...  My point is that although So Cal has it's share of true "victims" in this disaster, they are mostly avoiding the stereotypical poor behavior that we've come to expect from American victims who usually expect the govt to bail them out and who loudly claim various rights to handouts while saying they're being treated poorly by the people who are trying to help out.

And lots of regular people and businesses are helping too, without waiting for the govt to step in.  Why wait for the govt to do something when the people can help their neighbors themselves?

Yea... Fire breaks really wouldn't have helped.  It's hard to imagine a bigger fire break than interstate 15 (6 or more lanes in each direction) and the fire leaped that no problem.

Calif is BIG.  You could run a thousand buldozers 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and you couldn't create a tenth of the fire breaks you'd need to halt a wildfire this year.  This fire season was unusually dry.

If it was arson, they couldn't have picked a better (worse) time to start the fires.  The conditions were absolutely perfect for the fires to get out of control.  The fact that this doesn't happen every year says a lot about the quality of calif fire prevention efforts since the whole place is pretty much one big tinderbox anyhow.

I think the only thing that would help would be a much larger effort into systematic controlled burns.  That would help clear out a lot of the deadwood that burns so hot and so fast, that usually gets burned out naturally from lightning strikes and other natural fires.  We halt those fires and the deadwood stays around, so after a while you get a really dangerous situation.  Most forests actively haul out deadwood but some places really need to be burned every few years to control the deadwood buildup.

Russia has the best fleet of firefighting planes. These things are huge. Russia offered to send them to help the southern Calif fires but was turned down.
