The Ayatollah Khomeini declared Israel as an "enemy of Islam" He was Iranian.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, "Our dear Imam (referring to Ayatollah Khomeini) said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement. We cannot compromise over the issue of Palestine." He is Iranian.
Of course the translation has been challenged by Mr. Arash Norouzi, an who proposes that the statement "wiped off the map" was never made and that Ahmadinejad did not refer to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to the "regime occupying Jerusalem".
So it wasn't Israel that was to be wiped off the map, instead it was Israel.
Another translation says Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem must [vanish from] the page of time. so that means.... maybe... the destruction of Israel?
Iran's Foreign Minister (an Iranian) clarified the miscommunication saying, "How is it possible to remove a country from the map? He is talking about the regime. We do not recognise legally this regime,"
So they are not talking of killing the dirt, only the people o not people, zionists. The palestinians can live.
