Squad Night AAR
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:15:21 PM »
Well guys, we flew our first Squad night tonight and had a blast.  We took one small field with opposition, and then attempted two other fields with lots of opposition.  We had bombers up with escorts, but could not take the fields due to some strong fighter intercept.  We did not mind, we had some really good dog fights while defending the bombers; we landed some kills and we died some, but it was a great time.  We appreciate the turn out and hope you guys had as much fun as we did.  See ya'll on the next scheduled Squad Night, which is on Monday.

How much opposition? If the sides weren't even your squad is expected to split up and even sides.

Were you flying together as a squad? There are several squads which do that. My squad JG54 doesn't think that's a bad thing we love to fight them. At the same time we never up and fly as a squad but are continually vilified and criticized for doing so. I haven't figured that one out yet.

Also remember that vulching is something we don't do in the AvA. If someone ups from the base to defend the town you are expected to let the plane get up, get some altitude and speed, then only one should engage that plane. Again if the defenders don't equal the attackers some of you should switch. Also don't cap the base, we don't do that either.

Switching is another funny thing. When there are enough players JG54 may be together on one side, nobody likes this and players cry continually. When numbers are uneven we always split up, it's an expected thing. Of course they still cry, say we're spying. Haven't figured that one out yet either.

Then there are the rules for communication. They too are confusing. Many whine and complain constantly it seems to be ok. JG54 minds its own business until engaged. We will respond but are often criticized for doing so. Haven't figured that one out yet either. I believe it has something to do with the fact that some of us are very accomplished communicators. I guess the rule would be - if your not good at it and can't take it, it's ok to smack talk.

Also don't pork the dar or down the hangers.

Any of you regulars reading this help me out. I believe I have enumerated the expected behavior accurately. Please add anything I've left out.

I'll try to answer your questions in order here.

-How much opposition? If the sides weren't even your squad is expected to split up and even sides.

--Us Avengers do not fly against each other unless in the Dueling Arena.  We have found that numbers change with time through out the evening. we started out with a number advantage and ended up vastly out numbered.  We of course did not complain about it because we were having a blast.

-Were you flying together as a squad? There are several squads which do that. My squad JG54 doesn't think that's a bad thing we love to fight them. At the same time we never up and fly as a squad but are continually vilified and criticized for doing so. I haven't figured that one out yet.

--Yes, we always fly as a squad, but do not look down on squads that do not.

-Also remember that vulching is something we don't do in the AvA. Again if the defenders don't equal the attackers some of you should switch. Also don't cap the base, we don't do that either.

--Our rule of thumb is if somebody rolls from a capped base, that are one bad MF'er and will be killed before thay become a threat to our operations.  Equal fights take place in the Dueling arena, and we do cap bases.

-Switching is another funny thing. When there are enough players JG54 may be together on one side, nobody likes this and players cry continually. When numbers are uneven we always split up, it's an expected thing. Of course they still cry, say we're spying. Haven't figured that one out yet either.

--Been there done that; again, we switch sides once a month; unless we pork the map and it needs balanced back out.

-Then there are the rules for communication. They too are confusing. Many whine and complain constantly it seems to be ok. JG54 minds its own business until engaged. We will respond but are often criticized for doing so. Haven't figured that one out yet either. I believe it has something to do with the fact that some of us are very accomplished communicators. -- we are a fairly chatty bunch, especially after a few drinks.

-Also don't pork the dar or down the hangers.

--This may be necessary at times for us to accomplish our mission goals.

Me too...

Play my way or your not welcome in  the AvA

Seems like what you are trying to get across.  And people wonder why the AvA attendance is low.

Hey Dude, not my way. Just what I hear, all the time.

If JG54 were to Gang, Vulch, and CAP those guys would never get off the base.

I flew against you guys for a while last night.

I had a great time.  It was pretty clear you all were on, but it seemed like the sides were balanced out just fine, and the furball was fairly constant for quite a while.

You know, it seemed to me that the whining was really kept to a minimum when there were alot of folks on, as opposed to when it started to get thin in there.  When there were 25 guys on, there were so many fights going on that it was hard to get ganged, or to gang yourself.  I enjoyed that.

I'll be looking forward to seeing y'all avengers again next Monday.

The one I'm using I pay more attention to the buffeting, stall sounds, and I'm REAL familiar with the ones that mean I'm about to die.  Depends the pack I think but someone thmarter than me can probably answer in more detail.

I flew in there for about an hour last night.  During that time I saw no vulching, nor anyone hanging just outside the field waiting for a climbing-out pick.  Occasionally there was ganging on both sides, regardless of squad affiliation, as there usually is when you get 15 or more people in the arena.

What I did NOT see was the sort of nightmare base swarming that JG3 used to love, in the halcyon days of yore described elsewhere by Storch.  These new people will fit in just fine, I think.

You might try to stop in to see for yourself, you know.
