A Great Night
« on: October 27, 2007, 01:43:43 AM »
Tonight was one of those nights where everything seemed to work out. Our squad (Nightmares VMF-101) lost a good friend and squaddy last year to a long illness. We decided to have a memorial flight for him tonight.

We all launched in Typhoons, his favorite plane, and buzzed a CV and toasted him. Then we all went on a fighter sweep in the A19 area in typhs. After we landed we decided to try to break up the assault on A1 the Knits were performing.

V61 the Vbase west of 19 was the target. We thought by taking a base behind the lines it would disrupt their attacks. We launched from the cv SE of A19 (c47s from another base). Heading north then west under dar, flying thru the dar gap between A19 and A20 to the north.

When we arrived we hit the aa and waited for the goons. It seems there was so much traffic flashing bases it went un-noticed. Just as the goons arrived a Knit spawned an m16. We killed him, and captured V61.

We then up tanks and headed to A19. We made it to the base undetected and leveled the VH. Some tanks head got out and killed a few of us. About that time we figured we should have just taken the town down and captured it, but we wanted to try harassing the base for kicks.

We then switched to trying a capture of A19. However even though we got the town down, the Knits took out the troops at V61. So we attacked from A1 spawn. With the help from a Rook named Texasdog 50cals raced in and got 19. All the while Gristle and Blbird attacked the base to draw fire, killing many with pintle guns.

Knits got V61 back and started a heavy attack on A8, all the while trying to re-take A19. What a battle it was! I was lurking in the town and took out a tiger and panzer with the help from guys in the air spotting. I was thrilled as I never get kills in tanks. Then while moving, a lose brick in one of the buildings flipped my paper sherman on its back.

Mgd and Blbird defended A8 till the town re-gen'd and then help in A19 defense. 50cals was a madman down there GVing. I can only hope to one day be the tanker he is :P

Our last mission of the night we took 4 sets of 24s with 50cals escorting. Me , Mgd, BLBird and Ghost66 in B24s.  Almost to target (A20) 50cals suddenly says.."Hey..my wing is gone...wtf happened?" A 51 had snuck up while we were screwing off listening to Ghost66 sing Charlie Brown. I said."Its a 51!" The 51 then came in and killed 2 of our drones before I popped him as he passed, a lil too slow. He did great till then.

We ended up getting to target and after 20, we de-troop-tified V61, and de-ord'd A25. We RTB'd and said goodnight.

It was just a great night. You know how sometimes things just work out.Im sure it may sound mundane to some, but you just had to be there for some of it.

to the Knits for a great battle, and to Woody, our squaddie we will always remember.

Woody.  Sounds like he was helping from above?
There was once a saying that goes "If you put an infinite amount of monkeys in a room with an infinite amount of typewriters, eventually they will produce something worth reading."

The internet has proved this wrong.
