The Twilight Zone Game
« on: October 28, 2007, 01:44:40 PM »
Sitting in the shop for sometimes long hours on end waiting for the air framers to get done with their job so we can move in and do ours and move the birds to the flight line we tend to create some interesting games. One we recently created that sometimes brings up some good arguments is the twilight zone game. One person gives a scenario and everyone else gives their ideas on what would happen and the contributing factors. Now I have one for you all.

The Scenario:
Its 1945. Nazi Germany stands strong after removing British and American forces from Africa thanks to Rommel. great Britain has fallen. The U.S.S.R are in peace talks with Germany once again. Japan has occupied most of China and avoids further major conflict with the U.S. The German army builds its Navy into a major force. including the brand new Graf Zeppelin. The German military invades the United States.

The question: Will the U.S. manage to defend from a large scale invasion? What will effect the outcome of this?

In modern times, there have only really been two super powers.  America, and Japan.  A superpower being described as being able to project military power anywhere in the world.

Given this, the american rifleman and America's industrial might, Germany doesn't stand a chance.

Do you believe that the highway systems in the U.S. would play into the advantage of the German blitzkrieg?

Of course we didn't have the highway system we have today in the 1940s. Assuming the Germans conquered europe and the US felt secure enough to go about business as usually for the next 30-40 years, building it's concrete web, the Germans would still have to transport those tanks and troops to our shores. The time required for that "blitkrieg" would turn it into more of a blitzseige I suspect.

The interstate highway system didn't exist in 1945.

It didn't come about until President Eisenhower in the mid 50's

Here's a scary scenario. Nikita Khrushchev threatens the US "we will bury you".  Just more than 50 years later a certain female presidential candidate makes good on the promise.

are you saying Germany has taken over GB and all of Europe, or is eastern Europe still independent?

If they do not have complete control of GB then the US has a place to attempt to stop the ships and transports going across the Atlantic.

One problem with the scenario Germany doesn't have the natural resources, and space to compete with the food and manufacturing capabilities on the USA. Over the long term I don't think they'd be able to control, occupy, or stop the US from growing, building military equipment, and providing for our military.

Add in the amount of civilians who would fight back all over because of our right to bear arms the Germans would be pushed back. just think of down south and in the rural midwest areas. all those hunters, kids even that could shoot as well as a trained soldier. French Resistance? Imagine what the "American Resistance" would really be like.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I use Firefox itself.  No grammar editor, but a spelling checker very similar to Microsoft Word.

I have a spell checker but I often fail to use it and it doesn't catch my Patron enhanced errors.  :)

Germany has all of Europe under control.

A change to the scenario. Germany does not invade. Where to next? I would assume the U.S.S.R.

How do you work that out? The UK was arguably a superpower up to 1945, although it was burnt out and bankrupt by that point. It was definitely a super-power before WWI, and while waning perhaps, it still had that status in 1939.

You're sounding almost as bad as Viking, lamenting (I did not say whining) the good ole days.  :p
