It would depend on control of the air.

The Germans would be hard pressed to launch a successful invasion with just one carrier. Their air force would need to fly from bases in England/Ireland or even Iceland and Greenland. Depending on the distances, numbers and types of planes available and the weather, of course, I think they'd have a rough go of it.

Like the Battle of Britain, the airspace over the Northeastern US and Canada would have to be secured by Germany to ensure a successful invasion.

A change to the scenario. Germany does not invade. Where to next? I would assume the U.S.S.R.
that's a lot more feasible. with the land available, and the natural resources available just into Russia like the oil fields makes it a much more realistic and reachable target for Germany.

I know the movie "Enemy at the Gates" is a movie, but it brings up a point... the sheer numbers of Russians, and the commitment to their country is soemthing Germany would have a hard time with.

It would be a lot like us and invading Japan directly. the Japanese would rather die than surrender / lose. The Russians seem to be more like that, and the casualties would be immense, probably in the millions.

It's not too hard to look at the logic of these different scenarios. The human element, individual dedication to their country, and the resolve of the military leaders is the unknown; and hard to guess at.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Well, you'd better plan your invasion of Russia for the end of winter and it'd better be complete by the next fall or you'll be destined/doomed to repeat history in it's very cold finality.

A superpower is someone who can transport the majority of their army across the world.  I'm not talking about sending a small reactionary force somewhere in the world, but all of the British Army.

Don't take it as an insult (unless of course, you miss the golden British Imperial days when they were a super power), not even Russia during it's highest point was a super power.

I think you are failing to consider the USSR's ability to impart total annihilation of an enemy via it's intercontinental ballistic missile program. I think that qualifies it as a super power.

No, I considered it.  But don't forget that there were other countries besides us and the USSR that could do the same.

But remember, it's kind of hard to change something that's not there anymore...

Not hard if you're a democrat. ;)

Seriously though, Russia has a sizeable navy, air force, and more than a few megatons in fissionable materials they could lob our way.
