Hispano's Vs. Tanks
« on: October 30, 2007, 06:06:10 PM »
I have been wondering what a hispano could reasonably do to a tank.  It would seem that at best you might be able to track a Panzer, but i have never done so.  The heaviest GV i can remember affecting with the 38's cannon was an M8.  Any input or thoughts?

Well you can do enough virtual "damage" with hispanos to be credited with the kill when someone in a real tank-killer finally kills the tank.  Seems quite a few people like doing that, too.  It really bugs me.  For that reason I don't strafe tanks, I'll just strafe near them if I have to point them out to someone on the ground.

Thats my concern.  I have no issues upping a B25H because i have a fair shot at earning the kill as opposed to stealing it.  But there are times I'm trying to stop a  Panzer or M4 from advancing and i have never bee successful in tracking them.

Last night was was shot up as usual and rtb.  Set up for my usual broken landing and noted a Panzer dead center of the runway.  Bellied in and let fly with all the guns as I slid towards him.  Got him smoking but I'd misjudged the distance and rammed him too.  I died :)

Decided since GVs were down to up my 38 again and roll out to him and shoot him some more.  After all during the Battle of the Bulge the 474th got to the point where they had 38s sitting lined up on the roads when the word was the German tanks were close.

Got vulched before I could find out how a 38 vs Tank battle on the ground would go :)

Wouldn't that be a waste of a good 38?  Once spotted a main gun shot and BOOM, you have one of your planes.

If it's all you've got, i guess you make do.  They never had to find out.  Weather was such that they couldn't fly anyway.  Thankfully the Panzers never got close enough for it to matter.

I either tracked or killed the engine on a Panzer in a Spit XVI one day.  Not sure which but it stopped him dead in his tracks until a tank finally came along and killed him (and I got credit for the kill).

I can say from experience in GV's any number of planes can track any type of tank with enough rounds put into it, although often it takes more than one plane's full clip to do so.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

How do you get even BIOS fired up :D  j/k

Back on topic,

never got a real tank down with Hispanos, nor tracked them. De-turreted a couple of ostis with them though, or if lucky killed LVTs or the other thin skinned vehicles. Other then that, imho its only good for getting the kill due to damage accumulation (which I think is a serious glitch in the damage model) when someone else brings ordnance to bear which ACTUALLY is capable of killing the vehicle.

ya.. that kinda ticks you off..hehe happens to me quite a bit.. come over a base and see a tank just blasting away with its main gun..and a spittfire or even a p51 strafing the tank..right away i say to my self..im not going to waste my bomb on that tank and give some one a free kill...then it gets to the point were they cant kill the tank and its trashing the base and the ord..so i am forced to take the tank out..drop a bomb on it..even know the tanks main gun and motor still working..i get assist for blowing him to particals..lol

i really wish aces high would fix this issue..i think if a tank still has its main gun and motor..the kill should go to the person that does the most damage or blows it up.. how can it consider 50 cals piled up on the side with no critical damage a kill?

btw i have had 20mms from a nik kill my panz turret from the back..and been tracked many times...t34 seems to have no issues with 20mms besides tracks...now that 40mm on the d model hurri has killed my turret a few times in a t34..if so one knows the sweet spot its all over..lol

I like the fact that tigers are a little hard to kill even with bombs. Everyone wants to bomb a tiger almost as much as bombing carriers. I just hate seeing dive bombing lancs drop their whole load to kill one tank.
