If they started restricting ammo I'd build one hell of a stockpile a bit at a time. It's sort of like how I currently stockpile sudafed... Damned if I'm going to run out of sudafed because the govt feels the need to protect retard dopeheads from themselves, and damned if I'm going to run out of ammo from lack of planning ahead.

It's like waiting periods on handgun purchase... For a criminal, all that means is that their checklist of crap to do before murdering someone has to start one week earlier (or one day earlier if you plan on simply stealing a gun from some sucker who waited his week).

If they regulated brass, primers, or other reloading components, black powder would see a huge comeback. There are some nifty modern black powder firearms out there... Some are even in pretty hefty calibers. My favorites are the ones that have a large caliber (above .50) but use sabot rounds to push a really ballistically efficient projectile at a high velocity. Neato.

Yeah, I cant remeber maybe EEA? has a little 22 longrifle revolver, about the size of two fingers....

They now make a black power cap and ball version and its legal to carry concealed in California, I THINK.... kinda funny though

Smokeless powder, the kind used in reloading modern ammunition doesn't explode. It burns. The only way you get an explosion out of it is if it catches on fire while inside an tightly closed container. The container also has to be strong enough to not give way immediately, it has to hold some of the pressure until enough builds up that an explosion can occur. The containers the stuff comes in is not strong enough to cause an explosion if the powder inside were to catch on fire.

If the guy was reloading much older cartridges with black powder, then yeah, he could blow himself and the whole neighborhood up if he was smoking while reloading and had enough black powder on hand.

I would add that Cordite, or some of the other, older, Nitro-cellulose propellants will blow, especially if in a hot environment that aids decomposition-but that stuff's kinda rare anymore.

blackpowder takes some special reloading procedures but is relatively safe if handled properly.. it has the advantage that anyone can make it.

Black powder revolvers and rifles are very good. You can make the caps from beer cans and you can make the bullets with a mold over the stove.

All powders are safe if handled properly. Smoking while reloading with black powder would not be considered safe handling.

I did too while reloading shotgun shells with smokeless powder quite a few years ago.

In fact....one time a friend came over while I was reloading and smoking at the same time. He wanted to leave until I poured a small amount of powder on the concrete floor and then lit it with my cigarette to show him it wouldn't explode. True story.
