vv, didnt even think to look at the fuel state...makes perfect sense to me now:aok

I think you had him had him pretty easily assuming you hadn't run out of fuel and it had continued to be a one on one fight. In fact I think you likely could have killed them both. The ki61 made a major mistake when he over shot you.

One thing that strikes me as very odd watching your film is the lack  the lack of overall situational awareness you had in that fight. You did a good job looking around just as the fight started, but once you engaged the LA,
you never once looked behind behind yourself. Not until he made his shots that missed you.

From watching the film, I don't think you even knew the ki61 made a first pass at you, much less that he turned in behind you. You are just lucky he was a bad shot or you would have been dead a little earlier.

Not trying to rag, you but I use films to see what mistakes were made and what was done right in order to learn from it. If that was my film the thing I would have learned from it is to remember to look behind you. :O

I did hear him make a pass at me first merge, but knew i didn't have the fuel to fight them both, so yes, i purposely fixated on the la5.

AFAIC no need to turn off engine (I was coasting the plane because of lack of fuel before the engagement), but throttle management during the engagements is very important. Plp that fly their planes at max throttle and WEP on during all engagement will not get the most out of the plane w.r.t. close air combat. When to reduce and when to go full throttle depends very much on the planes involved and the maneuvers you are in.

Dutchie is a great stick.

I won't watch the film but if he said he "owned" you after extending when you had switched to the other con that is pretty weak.

Hardly any MA fights are 1 vs 1, you have to expect him to turn around as soon as you break off, thats what everyone does.

The only solution to fighting a good fight and then have someone interfere is to have a good enough squad to cover your back and make sure that KI gets nowhere near you whilst you murder his la5.

That is the primary role of having a wingman and a squadron.

Nice piece of stick and rudder work in the heavy-nose 109.  I find that model frustrating to fight in because of the twitchy behavior.
